  1. Item: MSB POWER DAC (MSB's own R2R ladder dac chips, rechargeable battery powered) Location: Bunbury, WA Price: $350 ono (cost around $6000 new) Item Condition: great cosmetic condition but does not work, needs repair Reason for selling: I simply have too many projects Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Quoting MSB "The Power DAC takes a different approach from other MSB products. We took the best of our own MSB DAC technology and put it with the best power supply technology in a no-frills package with no fancy features or upgrade options. The result in a level of integration that boosts performance and keeps costs low. The Power DAC has the performance of a Platinum DAC at the price of a GOLD". This is a truely a great dac and one I hoped to keep. It replaced a $10K (new) dac I owned previously. Dac has remote control I have had a quick diagnosis of it on speaking to MSB in USA via several emails. Battery power is good, batteries were brand new. There is something wrong with the DAC, analog power stages, code, or other damage on the main board. Jonathon Gulman at MSB has been fantastic and can properly diagnose the dac if it was to be sent to him. Without him seeing it, and from the information I gave him, he said there was a 90% chance he could fix it and expected to diagnose and do repairs in about an hr. He quoted $85 USD an hr to do the work and expected the total job to come to less than $300 USD. He was certainly very technically familair with his dacs and knew where look gold4Manual.pdf

  6. Further information: Selling for a friend who purchased this as an interim until his new DAC was delivered. No introduction required for MSB The Discrete DAC the build quality along with the exquisite sound this unit produces is amazing. The unit was purchased in January and has minimal use as it was used as a fill in until my friends new DAC arrived. Comes with original packaging and can be shipped anywhere in Australia at an agreed shipping cost. Starting RRP is $14850 and this unit has been fitted with the USB and single ended upgrade options at a cost of around $3000. Asking price for this 5 month old DAC is around 7k off RRP . https://www.audiofidelity.com.au/msb-technology-starts-shipping-new-discrete-dac/#:~:text=A%20modular%20architecture%20allows%20for,at%20AUD%243000*%20in%20GST. that's the original plastic on the screen its never been removed. probably has less than 100 hours on this DAC so it's still not burnt in, as amazing as it already sounds i would expect it to improve with a few more hours of playtime. 7. Item: MSB Analog DAC & Analog Powerbase Location: Northern Beaches, Sydney Price: $7,500 excluding shipping and other fees Item Condition: 8/10 - the very sharp spikey feet has caused some scratches on the powerbase Reason for selling: Consolidating systems Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased this outstanding DAC from the Sydney SGR Audio rep in March 2015. He sourced it for me as an ex-demo unit from SGR. The unit only came with one digital input at the time of purchase, namely the standard USB384 input. Last July I purchased the Quadrate USB input to add alongside it. As such the DAC offers buyers two separate USB inputs: the original USB384 input and the newer Quadrate USB input. As you'd know if you're looking at this unit MSB use a modular design when it comes to their DAC's and each option has quite a material impact on the price. As I understand it there aren't any other second hand/ex-demo MSB Analog DAC's currently available locally i.e. this is the only one listed for sale. A quick browse on HiFi shark points to two examples. One in Germany listed for $AU8,500 that doesn't include the $AU4,000 analog powerbase & $AU2,000 quadrate USB input; and another based in Russia listed for $AU16,000 that has identical specs to my one but runs the Network Renderer digital input instead of the Quadrate USB. The reason I ran two USB inputs is because I used two digital transports with this DAC. The Quadrate USB input was fed a signal from a Sonore MicroRendu & LPS-1 and the USB384 input was fed a signal via my Windows PC. A list of the specifications of this DAC are as follows: MSB Analog DAC MSB Analog Powerbase Analog Volume Control MSB Remote Control Quadrate USB input USB384 input RCA analog input Lastly, the condition of the DAC is what I'd list as 8/10. MSB (in their wisdom) went with incredibly sharp spiked feet for the DAC. As such there's been some scratches when the MSB was placed on top of the powerbase. I've tried to capture them in the pictures below. As these issues are purely cosmetic, rest assured the DAC itself performs flawlessly. My camera also highlights some of the scratches more so than they would appear in the flesh. I currently own a Chord DAVE and in the past have owned a Metrum Pavane, and JLTi Level 3 Oppo 105D amongst others. The MSB was significantly more resolving than the Pavane and JLTi modded Oppo 105D. I'd suggest the Analog DAC is within inches of the Chord DAVE when it comes to outright resolution. As far as tonality is concerned MSB were spot on when it came to naming the unit the Analog DAC. I'd suggest that there would be many audiophiles who would prefer the tonality of the Analog DAC to Chords DAVE in a blind test. The Analog DAC's presentation is intoxicatingly organic, textured and full bodied while being incredibly resolving compared to the DAVE's slightly lit up and illuminated tone. Pictures:
  8. Hi all, Was fortunate enough to attend the Tokyo International Audio Show on Fri 30-Sep and Sat 1-Oct. It was held in a massive conference building, while there bumped into Robert Harley and Jonathan Valin (The Absolute Sound), was kinda star struck ... oh and also met Alon Wolf (CEO of Magico Speakers) ! Audio gear on display was unbelievable, a lot more high end than we'd normally see at Sydney / Melbourne shows etc... For example, one of the local distributors, Axiis, had a MSB SELECT dac on display for a cool 12.3m yen (~AUD $160,000 !), Wilson speakers, Magico, Rockport, Focal etc everything truly high end. Also bumped into Nick & Tony of Audio Solutions, whom I originally met at a Sydney audio show and whom I bought my current speakers off. Attaching some photos from the event, hope you guys enjoy.
