  1. Hi, Sorry if this is covered somewhere but I couldn't find a thread. Recently down loaded some .DSF files onto the Onkyo player onto my iPhone. Playing these files through a Chord Mojo lights up the DSD light so assume it working correctly. So today in the car though I would try feeding it into the car's sound system (thought the UBS) and the files played, sounded good but this is a good recording anyway. Given the car has DAB radio is it likely that these files played as 'proper' DSD though the car? Has anyone else tried this?
  2. Hi everyone... I have been advised by ACMA and broadcasters that 64Kbit/s DAB+ is an improvement over FM and should sound fantastic... well... yeah.. sure... So what bit-rates are used around the world? Is 64Kbit/s as high as we can reasonably expect Australian digital radio to ever get? It's ok for headphones and background, but certainly not for lounge speakers or even in a car at a solid volume.
  3. In another thread I made a claim that was queried. I've now done a bit of research that I believe vindicates my claim. In the next few years, DAB+ radios may become very standard in new Australian cars (to a similar extent to the inclusion as standard of AM/FM radios). That stage has by no means been reached yet. This matter is relevant for any plan to switch off AM and FM broadcasts currently being simulcast on DAB+. Here is my own quick and dirty survey demonstrating that many mainstream motor vehicles being sold in Australia do not come with DAB+ radios: As stated at http://www.caradvice.com.au/556571/may-2017-vfacts-new-vehicle-sales/ Top models May 2017 Once again the two most popular vehicles in-market were utes – the Toyota HiLux (4154) and Ford Ranger (4069), with the latter edging the former in lucrative 4×4 sales. Next were the regular trio of small cars, the Toyota Corolla (3160), Hyundai i30 (2683) and Mazda 3 (2594). The best of the rest for May were the Mazda CX-5 on 2298, Toyota Camry on 2233, Hyundai Tucson on 2135, Nissan X-Trail on 1992, Toyota RAV4 on 1977, Holden Colorado on 1924 and Holden Commodore on 1841." A quick check of the highest selling models:- Toyota HiLux (4154) “WorkMate variants get a 6.1-inch touchscreen display for viewing the reverse-camera image (pick-ups) and controlling the audio system, which includes AM/FM radio, CD player, auxiliary/USB input+, Bluetooth and two speakers. Mid-range SR offers two speakers in single cabs, four in extra cabs and six in double cabs. SR5 extra cab is equipped with four speakers. Double cab SR5 variants are fitted with six speakers, a seven-inch touchscreen and Toyota Link connected mobility, which can provide access to Pandora internet radio and help find fuel, a destination, weather and other assistance. "SR5 also has digital audio (DAB) and satellite navigation.” Ford Ranger (4069) The XLT model includes DAB. The XL model does not. Toyota Corolla (3160) Appears not to come with DAB. Hyundai i30 (2683) Appears not to come with DAB. Mazda 3 (2594) Appears not to come with DAB. (Higher models may have it, e.g. CX-5). ______ Although this survey is by no means complete, I consider that it is sufficient to illustrate that there are major gaps in the inclusion of DAB+ radios in popular car models being sold in Australia in 2017.
  4. Anyone having a reception problem with Sydney 2SM digital? Their transmission seems to cut out randomly for a split second, this happens every 2-15 seconds for 15 minutes to 2hours When this occurs signal strength is good with no error & I've got 60+ other stations with no problems at all, it only happens with 2SM I've got full signal strength on a Panasonic SC-HC55DB & 75-80% on a cheap k/mart radio
