  1. Hi all, So my current setup is TV (optical output) -> DAC -> T-Amp -> Bookshelf Speakers I'm contemplating the best way to utalise portable sound devices such as phones and tablets into this setup and I think i've decided a chromecast or chromecast audio is the best way to do it. The chromecast would be the easiest but would mean that I have to have the TV on which isn't great: Chromecast -> TV (optical output) -> DAC -> T-Amp -> Bookshelf Speakers I was contemplating having a chromecast audio inline something like this: TV (optical output) -> DAC -> AV AutoSelector or Preamp -> T-Amp -> Bookshelf Speakers Chromecast Audio -------------------------------------^ But i'm having trouble finding a reasonably priced auto selector and i'm a little concerned about having an inline selector would affect the sound quality. Does anyone have any experience with this setup or recommendations? If someone knows a reputable AV Auto Selector / Preamp i'd be very appreciative. Thanks!
  2. For those who wants to get into digital streaming cheaply, better grab yourself one before it is gone! https://www.engadget.com/2019/01/11/google-chromecast-audio-discontinued/ https://techcrunch.com/2019/01/11/google-cans-the-chromecast-audio/
  3. Further information: One Google Chromecast Ultra in as new condition (no box). Bought brand new from The Good Guys late 2019. Have since bought a smart TV so don't need the streaming capabilities of the Chromecast. Shipping to anywhere in AUS is included in price. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  4. Hi all, I have been using a Google Chromecast Audio to stream music from Tidal, Google Play Music and a Vortexbox. I stream it to a Klein 3 Dac and Primaluna Prologue Premium Preamp. I am happy with the DAC and preamp and don't intend to upgrade. At least for the moment. The Chromecast works fine especially for how much it costs. The only problem is the well-documented hiss when you change tracks. Can anyone recommend an upgrade for the streamer? I don't need any other functionality, just streaming from these sources. Cheers
  5. Hi all, I use a chromecast audio for streaming. Everything is fine when streaming from the NAS using Hi-Fi Cast app; however, when I use it for albums on google play music, there is a static sound between tracks. Online this seems like a known issue and also happens with Tidal. However, in trying to work out whether other chromecast compatible streamers had a similar issue, it was difficult to find a list of such streamers. I know of: - Cambridge audio CXN v2 - some Nad products - Pioneer N30AE, N50AE & N70AE - Primare SC15 and SC5 Does anyone know of other chromecast compatible music streamers? Cheers.
  6. Hi SNA Legends, I'm new here and unsure of the category best to post this in. I've guessed for General HIFI because I want HIFI questions answered, but there is an inherit technology aspect written in as well. Problem Definition I'm struggling to get the most convenient, highest quality audio at the moment in my home from technology. In Short - LossLess Digital Audio and Apple Devices = Pain. My ideal digital audio setup would be CD quality files stored in Plex on the network, and played without loss across the network into my receiver with access to a decent client app on iPhone/ios/appleTV/mac. HIFI Streaming service such as Tidal is ok, as I can Airplay that across to the AppleTV from IOS which is in fact taking FLAC > ALAC > Digital Audio (HDMI) > Receiver, not passing a DAC until it hits my Yamaha Receiver and presumably only passing a DAC and creating artefacts inside my receiver. It seems Apple refuses to include FLAC still in IOS/AppleTV devices, and client apps like Plex must under license presumably use the apple codecs only when writing apps for these devices. Apple has their ALAC (Apple Loss Less Cocec) which they seem to not use commercially on iTunes (yuck anyway) and the only mention I've seen them use it is in their AirPlay which for the most part works quite nicely as mentioned above. So - what are you using out there to get FLAC files out of Plex/DLNA over the air with convenience without losing quality? I don't really want a new receiver. I've just seen the Chromecast Audio device, which looks to have optical out - is anyone using this with iOS Plex APP with FLAC files streaming to the ChromeCast and outputting digital audio via the Optical and confirming that there is no weak link in the chain going all the way to the receiver's digital input? The ChromeCast should be undoing the FLAC and outputting PCM via Optical yes? Cheers, Luke
  7. I have a new house which has a home theatre system built in but it is about 5 / 6 years old. I am having issues with the remote control synching with the TV as sometimes it turns the TV off and not the Bose sound system etc. they go out of sync. The other major issue is that the bose audio enhancer which has HDMI inputs does not output a Google Chromecasts audio nor does my old TV. I am happy to buy a new Samsung (due to the fact I have another one, my current TV weights 80kgs, or any other recommendation welcome) Heres the equipment I currently have: 65" Panasonic TH-65PF11WK, Bose LifeStyle V30 / 20, Bose Personal Music Centre, Foxtel IQ 3, Google Chromecast Do I need to upgrade anything for the Bose System? Can I relay Chromecast audio through a new TV back to the Bose controller if the Bose controller doesn't support carrying the new audio? Attached some photos to hopefully help. Any suggestions appreciated, Thank you in advance!!
  8. Hi guys, I'm curious if anyone else has issues with Netflix 5.1 dialog levels? Basically in order to actually hear the dialog I have to crank it so loud that every bang, clang or crash leaves us bleeding from the ears. I know this is a fairly common problem in itself but for us its only Netflix that I have this problem with as all other sources including other streaming services are perfect. We stream our stuff via a newer Chromecast and system wise I'm running a 7.1 setup via a Marantz SR6006. Speakers are a combination of Paradigm Monitor 11's (including center) up front and little B&W 601 S3's for surrounds. It's all a few years old but it can certainly handle Dobly Digital Plus which is what Netflix content is supposed to stream in (the amp does support and recognise it as DD+) I've tried this on my back room setup too and I have the same problem. I also tried it on a spare Onkyo amp and again the same problem. I also tried another generation of the Chromecast and again the same problem. The Audyssey Dynamic Volume settings on the Onkyo and Marantz seem to be the only thing to reign it all in it but that is just compressing the dynamic range which I really shouldn't have to do. Pushing the center channel throws it out of whack for all other sources so thats not really an option. It's been driving me nuts for nearly 12 months as most of our casual/daily viewing is Netflix. My Mrs is happy with the dynamic audio setting on high and I find it tolerable enough for casual viewing BUT it's not right if you know what I mean. I can find a few other reports of similar issues via a google search but not many and it's mostly people trying to down-mix 5.1 to their soundbars etc. Is it just me???
