Could this be the best turntable ever built?
Gentlemen, I present to you, in the blue corner, from Germany, weighing in at 36.3 kilograms. born in 1951 - the EMT 927 - one of the most sought after turntables in the world.
The EMT 927 was made for broadcast studios, and was sold as the R-80. This is one very big turntable. The record you see in the picture is a 12 inch LP. Back in the 50's and 60's, radio stations used compilation LP's which were 16 inches in diameter. These were usually provided by the recording companies. The arm you see is a 12 inch EMT 997 (banana) arm.
The EMT was engineered to a very high standard. I suspect that any rejects were used to make Panther tanks. The bearing shaft, for example, is 16.6 cm long and has a diameter of 2 cm! The motor itself is massive. It looks like an industrial motor, 13.5 cm in diameter and 20 cm long! It is a 3 phase synchronous type with phase shifter.
How good are these turntables? Almost 60 years later, pristine models with no modifications, can still show a clean pair of heels to many of today's finest. In fact, EMT turntables are legendary for sounding better with few, if any, modifications. The 927 also had a little brother, the EMT 930, which was smaller and less heavily engineered than the 927, but is reputedly almost as good as it's big brother.
If money were no object, the one turntable in the world I would buy, is a pristine EMT 927S (with a mount for an extra tonearm).
Andythiing, keep an eye out next time you are at the dump...
cheers

Yes.The 927.
Sure makes the Garrards look like a distant destitute cousin.

There has been a lot more since then Mr Sheds but I wouldn't expect Nostro to pick your post up though................his last activity was early November 2008 and he hasn't been seen since. I had a little bit to do with him too back then as we had a common interest in sport and work but he seems to have vanished completely as I get no response to email and the mobile I had now doesn't answer.I often wonder where he got to as he had a big interest in turntables and from memory a huge collection of vinyl too.
Cheers,
Keith

hi Andy,
The Lenco project is running behind atm waiting for the plinth and I just got the arm so I gave it a run on another table. Had a frustrating few days with hum issuewith a few MM/MI cartridges in my system and some setup issue from a linear tracker newbie.
But the maker is great and very responsive with all my queries.
It's up and running now and it's rather good, make that very good.![]()
A few more things to try. I will send you a pm.

2 Sheds, slight correction to your post. Dr. Christian Feickert originally worked at Scheu Analog when Thomas Scheu was alive. Chris was a design engineer there and when Thomas died at a young age his wife Ulla took over running the business. Chris left the company and started his own business building turntables. Puremusicgroup has the agency for Dr. Feickert Analogue products.
For those that are interested the prices are:
Woodpecker $4950
Blackbird $6950
Twin $8950
Triple $12,950
All of the turntables can accommodate up to 12" tonearms and all except Woodpecker can fit multiple tonearms.
The Blackbird has two motors for additional torque. I have the Blackbird here on demo now.

Thanks for the clarification No sooner had I made this post than I went looking at your website, as I very often do. And what did I see? There, on the home page was a Dr Feickert Woodpecker ( the turntable, I mean). PMG really does have an embaressment of riches Great looking turntables. They look very promising.
