    NAD M15 upgrade to....?

    Hey Guys,

I have a NAD M15 at the moment, upgraded to that from the Rotel RSP-1066. I pretty much am only into HT and hence listen to music once in a blue moon. I use a DVDO VP50 with my NAD and pretty much these days find that most of the inputs all go into my DVDO and then only have a couple of things going directly to my NAD. I have noticed Integras, Onkyos, Yamahas, Denons all seem to have soo many cool features and extra things that my NAD doesnt have. ie video upscaling, audyssey stuff..2 hdmi outputs etc etc.

The only issue I had was I am not sure its a step up or a step sideways or even a step down from the M15. But as far as brands go i still think of the brands i mentioned as possibly being a lower end brand than the NAD. Probably a similar to a Rotel or lower end than that too... Yet i hear so many people talk about the Integras and Denons extremely highly. My first amp was a Onkyo SV919THX, I loved that amp and it was a great performer especially for the build quality and features. But i do know that sound wise my rotel outperformed it.

i generally only buy 2nd hand since i cant afford brand new prices for the range i am keen on, the other route i was thinking was something like a audio processor only since the DVDO can do most of the video side of things. Like i have heard of the Cary systems that sound intriguing, or maybe even upgrade my video upscaler and get both the Cary products....?

    Lonewolf,

Just saw your post - will swap you my onkyo 875 + $50 for your NAD M15.

Dont be stupid the NAD is much better quality. I am running an Elecktra theatron off my 875 and it was a huge boost in quality.

If you have a good TV you dont need the 'cool stuff' cause the TV does the best scaling normally.

So you feel like the M15 would be unbeatable in sound quality by the Integra processors or the Denon / Yamaha / Onkyo receivers? Even for Home theatre or are you also considering 2 ch? I have really good power amps so i probably wont have to replace them for a while, was just looking at the processor since i am only really into HT and I guess the M15 does miss some features. I use my VP50 for the video part so that part is sort of taken care off, except would be good to have 2 hdmi outputs.

    Hi lonewolf

I have heard the NAD M15 with M25 against the Denon 4310 and M25, the all Nad system was alot clearer. I havnt however heard the AVCA 1HDA with amp yet. Hard to get a listen in Qld. I go to Sydeny & Melbourne so I go to shops there.

I just find that if a processor is made for music as its priority then the HT sound is also better. I would have bought an M15 except I need the extra speaker outputs off the Onkyo for outside use. I am waiting to see what the next generation receivers/processors bring to the table too.

The Marantz AV8003 looks like a good unit from some of the forums. You obviously want a screen & TV for 2 HDMI ?

If you don't mind the question how much was the VP50 ? Would not this be waste if you cahnge processors

Just a couple of thoughts Yamaha don't make a processor only to my knowledge. Try searching Aslan Acoustics and go to products then Reference - youll find the reference server dont know if this interests you

The VP50 I bought a while ago for about 1500$, I suppose i will still probably stick with it for most of my video processing unless i came across something better? It doesnt have 2 hdmi outputs that the integra does so i could go through the vp50 then into integra to use the 2 outputs and OSD.

Where did you go to listen in Sydney? and was it to a surround sound test or 2ch? I hear the NADs or atleast more importantly i hear that the integra is not great 2ch or with analogues but when it comes to digital signals and most surround sound these days are (at least everything i have is) then the Integra is meant to be great. But I havent come across many people who have tested it up against the M15 so perhaps they are still saying great compared to certain brands but not of the ilk of the M15...no idea.

I was looking at the MArantz but it doesnt seem to have as many features plus is a bit pricey too.... That Aslan reference server thing is pretty cool, I remember talking to him about it ages ago but sadly how many inputs does it have? Because i will need quite a few for my devices, i guess thats the important question.

With the yamaha, i guess i meant the Yamaha Receivers especially the higher end ones.

Heard the NAD & Denon up here. Are you talking about the new Onkyo 5507 or is there an Integra. How much are they ? When can you get Integras ?

It would be such a shame to waste all the amps on a high end Yammie

Theres a new shop in Bondi Junction in the shopping center that has Cambridge, Rotel, HK, Yamaha and afew others that might be worth a look.

I was looking at getting John's Integra DHC 9.9 but sadly its gone so i guess i cant think of upgrading for a while till another possibility comes along . haha.
