quick question regarding head phone amp

Hey guy's i just have a quick question about head phone amps and how they are connected.I know that most(if not all?) of them connect at the rear via rca interconnects. My question is though,do you connect them directly to your CDP(I'm using a DVD/CDP which has a dedicated 2 channel output at the rear)

Or do i connect to my amp via one of it's outputs?Does it make any audible difference?

    Thanks

I usually just connect my source directly to the headamp

You can do either. I have mine (it has 2 switchable inputs) connected to both my turntable directly, and also the fixed output of the preamp.

    Cheers,

Go straight from source to the headamp. If you do go through another amp make sure it's just a 'pass through' type situation, otherwise your going to get your amp sound come through your headamp, and then then the head amp sound on top of that which you DON'T want. What head amp have you got? What outputs has it got?

Or, has your source got 2 different outputs? That would be best, one to your amp, one the other to your headamp.

less connections the better. It is only tricky when your source is also hooked up to another amp and the source does not have multiple outs. It also depends on whether your amp has a dac in it or not. My little dot mk III does not, so I just have it hooked up from the sound card on my computer. Also, are we talking portable amp or stationary?
