Can't help with whether you need spikes or not, but its nice to see granite being used.

I constructed an equipment rack out of synthetic granite (Caesarstone) and house bricks. Works very nicely. The stonemason, who normally makes gravestones, wondered what the hell i wanted them for.

It depends on what you are trying to achieve.... are you trying to rigidly couple the speakers to the floor, trying to isolate the speakers from the floor, or just wanting a nice flat rigid surface for the speakers to stand on? What is the floor surface ... carpet, boards, tiles?

The answers to these questions will determine the appropriate interfaces to use between floor and granite slab, and granite slab and speakers.

    Thanks DSK
Not fully understanding the theory for using spikes in my situation I have wooden floors and the granite and speakers will sit on a low pile rug. My speakers could benefit with more bass if anything.I just want to get the best out of them and my room. The other pieces will be used for sitting other components on with the spider rack setup.

How will granite slabs improve the sound of your speakers?

Nice granite, looks like my kitchen benchtops!

Just curious, wouldnt you have worked out the answer to your question BEFORE you went to the trouble of buying the granite?

Would sugest give VAF a call as they would be best placed to tell you what works best with your/ their speakers n a given situation.

also, do you spike the granite to the floor and then spike the speakers to the granite or do only one etc? I guess that would depend if you are trying to either isolate or couple them to the wooden floor....

    good luck

Its going to very hard to try and decouple the heavy granite so I'd go with its strengths and attempt to use its weight to strongly couple.

Because you have carpet I'd use a small amount of bluetac to attach 4 spikes. The weight of the granite should overcome any decoupling effect the bluetac would have and it will mean you don't need to drill you granite.

I'd also go 4 spikes over 3 and rely on the granite weight to get all 4 spikes firmly secured to the floor.

    So is it an improvement?

    If so, in what areas?
