Couldn't resist the current deals on TVs

    Hi all.

I went to buy some socks on Saturday and ended up ordering a new TV.

I've been considering buying a flat screen for a while but since there was 20% off plus 3yrs intertest free plus an extra 12.5% off for last weekend plus the current freebies I just... snapped.

I ordered a 50" Panasonic G10 plasma. Just under $2K (before delivery et al) and $11 cheaper than the G10 46". My inner bloke made me buy the bigger one. According to the reviews I've ead and the demo the quality is the same.

Why not a Samsung series 6 or a Sharp LED-lit LCD? Well, neither of those (or LG, Sony or other Samsung et al<$2.5K)
as demonstrated in the store on Saturday could reproduce free-to air broadcasts with anything like lifelike colours. I really wanted the Sharp but the skintones were too flat and plasticky. It made every show look like Thunderbirds.

The store couldn't (not wouldn't, couldn't) change the settings to another preset or manually adjust so I had to view the images presented.

The Panasonic did not have any unusual artefacts on TV and reproduced Blu-Ray as well as Or better than the LCDs under store conditions.

I decided I had to go with my own perceptions rather than the recommendations of respected audio dealers as I'll be watching far more FTA TAV than DVDs. That may change if/when I get a Blu-Ray player.

good to see I'm not the only one who needs socks and still has a CRT TV.
I was in **** Smith's last week and couldn't believe how cheap yet good the TV's are getting now. i best avoid shopping for socks just in case.

The socks are 1/3 off until Wednesday so I'll buy them today. Although I am going in to audition the HD800s this afternoon...

I have CRT and happy with it.

But DSE have 42" plasma for $700. That's insane.

Any inputs on the reliability of these no-brand units ("VIVO") ?

Grenfell Hifi. Will post tomorrow on my impressions. I'm taking my 650s. I hope I hate the 800s or I'll never pay off my credit card.

I have bought a Pana 58" V10. I am very happy with it. It is a plasma, but is some 20% more efficient than my previous 50", despite having a much larger display (making the efficiency improbvement much higher)

Stump, with your OPPO you can use 1080p 24 if the new (LCD?) panel will take it. If you want to see what the different display characteristics are with the stock OPPO, pop in for a look at my place. Not far from VAF.

PS The 50" G10 is also a good buy. The 50" V10 is a classy display which is a bit better again, especially if you want to do blu-ray display. In reality, the difference is marginal between the two.

PPS I need some new socks. Any suggestions? I have 'sensitive' feet. I am that sort of guy.
