    Hi
Well I think maybe the descendents of John Smith could sue both Disney and Cameron. On the other hand maybe the wirters of 'Fever' could - 'Captain Smith and Pocahontas had a very mad affair. When her daddy tried to kill him, she said Daddyo don't you dare....

Apparently there are a couple of sequels planned and rumour has it that Rowan Atkinson may be scripted for a pivotal role

I saw it tonight, admittedly on the small screen but I tried really really hard to like it. It's hard without the big screen and 3D. Disappointing, I'd hoped for more. Banal simplistic predictable plot. Good graphics. Great film if I still had pimples.

I took my better half and my out-laws to see this yesterday - Gold Class. Yeah sure the plot was predictable but it sure was a visual feast on the 3D screen. You know you have enjoyed a near on 3hr movie when it does not feel like 3hrs at all. Interestingly there was an article on news.com.au that showed you the 20 best "Box Office" grossing films of all time and Avatar still does not rank in the top 20.

First impressions last, and Avatar didn't make a good first impression. But the 'never judge a book by its cover' saying could easily be reworked to 'never judge a film by its first trailer.' You have to see Avatar to believe it, and even then it's nearly impossible to register all of what's on screen. In fact, stop reading this now, get a ticket, go see Avatar, and then you try and describe the experience. I dare you. I double dare you.

Seen It in 3D and thought it was great. I'm glad they didn't go over the top with the 3D effects just gave it such a great depth of field.
The story is simple and yes in some ways a bit of an age old plot but what really got me was concept of a forest, a planet that is biologicaly connected like a nural net. Wow! that was very creative. Who to say if millions of years ago in evolutionary cycle if things ziged instead of zaged it couldn't of happend.
Hmmm, maybe I have had to many beers.

I too got a Bluray copy today ($25 in Kmart), i especially set up and calibrated one of my projectors to watch this movie on the screen at home. The quality & definition at the cinemas is nothing compared to what is achievable at home.

I loved watching this movie, visually it is fantastic and one of the must have movies on Blu Ray. The story was fine for me, i was always going to like this movie no matter how bad the story was going to be.

When the 3D version comes out later in the year, i will get a copy too as it is a true 3D and good to try out the 3D firmware.

Depends on what it has to offer, probably if it is as different as how different the Lord of The Rings extended versions were. The LOTR trilogy is a better written story and the extended versions filled in the missing gaps.

Well, finally played it last night at home.

Very impressive image, clear, crisp, detail was all there in objects. It is a quality image that has been filmed with very good equipment and certainly wasn't this clear at the cinemas.

The digital characters blended in well with the artifical environment, it all looked convincingly real, they did look a little artifical in the lab. Transformers has managed to be more successfull when it came to digital characters being in a real life scene. Check out the cemetry scene with Optimus Prime in T2 and the ambient lighting with a setting sun.

Sound, wonderfully rich surround mix and it doesn't dissapoint with the usual explosions etc. The beginning is great when the shuttle flies down to Pandora & lets off a sonic boom (i think my neighboours enjoyed that one)

Overall, it is a great movie to have on Bluray and certainly worth $25. This version has no extras or features though, so wait for the special versions if you want more.

As far as my movie collection goes, this one is fantastic to show to your friends as it is impressive, but i still find something like The Lord of The Rings trilogy more rewarding.

    cheers

Picked it up yesterday on bluray.
Does anyone have a problem with a slow loading time for the movie? took about a minute to load on my new Oppo BD80.
Great picture quality and Audio was superb. really worked the subwoofer when the planes land at the start. Also the surrounds got a good workout as well.. Loved it.

I'll let you know how fast it loads in a PS3-120-slim once I return my copy of Avatar to Target so that they can release the f@#^ing security tab that currently prevents me from accessing the disc inside. I rang them about the issue when I got home last night and the guy on the other end of the phone knew what I was going to say just after I opened my mouth.... clearly not an isolated issue and something that they should be pointing out to customers at point of sale.

All too funny YS, i noticed there was a lock on the side (green/red padlock) must have been the same check out chick for everyone!

You shouldn't have any trouble with loading.

All my other blu rays load in seconds as well. Just reading on DTV forum and a few others are having loading issues with Avatar as well.
The scene where Jake Sully is in the Avatar and stuck in the forest for the first night. The animals running around in the background sound awesome!

This evening's news said that the Avatar discs (DVD and Blu Ray) have broken all sales records to date.

Something like 350,000 discs sold on day 1 of its release.

According to the distributor, a very popular release usually hits the 50,000 mark in the 1st week of its release.

This makes the Avatar sales figures phenomenal..............

Well................if you promote anything heavily enough (Coles,Woolies, Safeway, JB, **** Smith......every man and his dog is selling this disc) this is what's possible........

    Well Done !!
