Agreed, watched in 3D last night. A visual masterpiece, but with not alot of scipt beyond a Saturday morning cartoon. That said, a must see on the big screen in 3D.

Just came back from watching this. The visuals were something to behold, but many parts look as if it came out from World of Warcraft.

Schembri was right about 2 dimensional characters. You have met all of them before - the square jawed military commander, the noble savages, the selfless scientists, the self-sacrificing hero. Cliches, cliches, and more cliches.

    Spoiler alert, highlight to read:

I groaned loudly when Jakescully arrived in that flaming red warbird and impressed the hell out of the natives. I mean, FFS! If I turned up to a party in a flaming red Ferrari would all of them start doing what I want? Are they all so easily impressed?

You don't need to ask. I hated it.

Well you can analyse a movie all you want but in the end you are just ruining it for yourself.

I go into a movie without any expectations, and usually enjopy it for what it is. So what if there were cliches? Or maybe you thought the scipt was lacking.

If you have high expectations from everything in life you will just be dissapointed most of the time.

For me, that was the best movie I have seen in a long long time. I just got back from watching it, and I actually felt like going back and lining up to watch it again.

Well, I will try and go back to watch it in 3D I guess.

I just watched it in 3D and loved it. Great visuals, and special effects, sure, we have seen the same old storyline elswewhere, but take it for what it is and I think its spectacular. I even intend on taking my 9 and 11 yr old daughters to see it, as I know they will love it.

    Hi,

I just saw avatar too. Visually stunning in 3D and not to bad a story line either. Might go see it again.

I would rank it up their with lord of the rings, and star wars for special affects - up with the best. Probably the best movie ive seen in the last 2 years.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Had a chance to watch this in 3D on the weekend, graphics and special effects were very very good

Story was terrible, very cliche and reminded me of the Disney movie Pochahontas :P

Anyone else read about the rumous that Cameron plagiarised the story? The original novel is very similar, and the main character is also a paraplegic.

Took my son to see this today.

OK its not an adult movie ( or should I say a movie for adults) - but the visuals (3D) and the stunningly detailed creation of an alien world are something to behold. Tempted to do this again - just ignore the storyline and enjoy the picture.

Of the big budget Hollywood blockbuster films? Very few unfortunately! The last movie I thought was really good was Up.

Ha you guys have too high standards for movies!

I was that kid in english class always asking "Miss why are we bothering to study a movie? Wouldn't I be better off in Chemistry or Physics learning how to change the world (for the good)?"

As such I don't analyse a movie I just watch and enjoy.

Keith - you are 100% correct, but you forgot to add the absolute lame dialogue.

I kept thinking I was watching some lame video game version of the Lion King in outer space, but worse.

You don't need to ask, my buddy and I hated it. It is easily one of the worst movies I have ever gone to see at a cinema.

Watched the film for the second time last night. This time it was in 3D and I have to say that the format shows promise though the stupid projectionist who still couldn't focus the screen certainly doesn't. It is interesting to see that directors have yet another dimension to play.

I took my teenage kids to watch the 2D version last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
It is, as HG said, very much like a futuristic 'Dances with Wolves'.
It's sort of like, "Dances with Wolves" meets "The Matrix",............... with a bit of 'Dragon Rider' and 'Turok' the game thrown in as well.
Story line is predictable and some of the dialouge a bit weak and corny in parts, but overall, great entertainment and a lot of family fun.
We are going back to see the 3D version we enjoyed the 2D version so much.
8 out of 10 from me.

I managed to catch this yesterday.
OK so it's rather predictable, sticks to a proven formula, and borrows heavily from a lot of previous epics, BUT, I loved it and it's definitely going into the BluRay collection on release.

    8/10 for me.

Its a movie..............dont analyse it, enjoy it.

Saw it yesterday and thanks to SNA, I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Yes the plot is basic but the technology is great.
After nearly a century of film making I guess it is hard to come up with new plots.

You think so do you Watch some foreign films, you will be pretty surprised. As a start, try a weirdo French flick and see what you think.

Oh, and don't forget - why is the dialogue so excruciatingly poor? There is no excuse for that. A film that makes me facepalm every 5 minutes leaves me with a sore forehead.

I took the kids to see " Cloudy with a chance of meatballs"

Now this is an enjoyable movie, good charcters, great 3D images, excellent dialogue with a few great lines for the adults, not too long.
    Everything Avatar was not :-)

Cheese aside, in 3D IMAX it was the most impressive movie I've ever seen, and one of the most enjoyable as a complete experience. Watching 2D trailers afterwards makes me think they shouldnt offer it in 2D at all, it misses the point. Really, dont wait for the Bluray on this one, get to the IMAX for a quite literally draw dropping experience.

The trailer 3D Alice In Wonderland looked equally impressive. I'm now more that happy to hand over my money to the box office, at least until 3D of this quality comes to home cinema.

storyline predictable but 3D graphics alone make it a must see. Saw it in Gold Class and suspect the more intimate settings further enhanced the experience

    G'day,

Strewth there's always gunna be couple of curmudgeonly old contrarians up in the peanut gallery, even on SNA

Anyway, I took the kiddies to see "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" a while back; s'okay I s'pose but it seemed a bit repetitive in the middle. I was looking at me watch a few times there, which I never did for the 2+ hours of "Avatar". Though I did like the Mr T voice ...

Just got back from the movies..........

    Saw Avatar in 2-D.

Impressive..........long, a tad too long for comfort, but enjoyable all the same.

    My kids loved it.

    "Best movie we've seen Dad".........

I'd say the 3-D version (with great sound) would be a spectacular experience..........

May not appeal to all tastes though.

    Russ.
