  1. That Technics/SME combination (with a Shure V15/3, of course) was my first really serious turntable set-up. Lovely to be transported back in time like that - thanks for posting this, Big Blue.
  2. Thanks, and well spotted as a Lenco! The plinth is a slate/bamboo/mdf sandwich with Huon pine trim. I could have done with some better tools, but I'm pretty pleased with the result - especially as dimensions were governed by the size of the slate fragment I had. It's quite compact at about 44x40 cm for a deck that will take a 12" arm, and yet doesn't look too small for the arm or too big for a 9" one. I don't think I'll be ready to part with it for a while...
  3. Sold - pending payment.

  5. Item: Boxed SME 3012/Series II 12-inch tonearm with extras Location: Adelaide Price: $1750 Item Condition: Excellent. Reason for selling: A surfeit of fine tonearms Payment Method: Bank transfer; cash on pick-up. Extra Info: This is a very well cared for and recently overhauled early Series II arm with accoutrements. It comes with its original box and manual, alignment protractor, 3 individually boxed headshells of different weights (from 5 -12gm), two fingerlifts, and both standard and split counterweights: a real enthusiast’s kit. The arm was overhauled three years ago to update the ageing signal path. · The headshell mounting bayonet collar was replaced with a new gold-pin model from SME (part No. 1802/12; receipt available). · Internal wiring was replaced with 33AWG Cardas cable. · The original cable connector was replaced with an RCA conversion kit from Analog Tube Audio, Germany (receipt available). The external cable included is a van Damme star-quad type with Switchcraft RCA plugs. Mechanical refurbishment was confined to the fitting of new SME grommets to the baseplate and earth lead aperture. The bearings and flexible coupling required no attention. In short, a mechanically and cosmetically excellent example of this legendary (and beautiful) tonearm, with improved signal path and a nice set of extras, in original packaging. Pictures:

  9. Item: Location: Adelaide Price: $2500 Item Condition: Excellent but for some scratching to upper faceplate of amplifier unit (see photos) Reason for selling: Downscaling (subtext: stuffed shoulders and arthritic thumbs) Payment Method: Bank transfer; cash on pick-up. Extra Info: This monster powerhouse integrated with valve preamp stage has driven my Sonique Encores with both dynamics and delicacy, as required, for the past 3 years. The KW550 has a switchable MM/MC phono stage, 5 RCA line inputs (one of which alternates with a 3.5mm ‘portable device input’ on the front), and preamp- and line-outs. Power rating is 630wpc into 8 ohms and 910wpc into 4 ohms. The separate PSU houses 3 transformers and weighs 32kg (!) New price was about $12k. Full specs can be found here: http://www.studio22.com/musical_fidelity/kw550.htm The amp comes with all ancillaries: remote control, power cord, and both long and short sets of screened PSU-to-amp umbilicals. Preamp valves have been upgraded, to good effect, from the stock Golden Dragon 6SL7s (also included) to long-life RCA red-base 5691s (platinum grade from Upscale Audio). I have the (unoriginal but suitable) shipping boxes in which I received it. Buyer to arrange courier collection, if required. (Insured door-to-door freight to the eastern states should cost about $100).
