hard to say if this DAC is any good. The specs suggest it should be good but ... I've heard 2k DAC's sound average and $500 DAC's sound better

Having said that, it is a cheap DAC and maybe worth a gamble on.

Can you let me know the model number of the Technics DAC loaner you have, it may turn out to be a very good DAC and you could get it up and running with a USB/ Coax converter.
Nick might not want it back.

well the TDA1551 DAC chip seems to be unanimously liked but there are other components in a DAC that also play a part.
Should work fine as you will connect from you MacMini to this DAC by USB

Will go and look at your other post now and get back to you with my thoughts

Hi David, thanks for your kind offer however I had a stroke of luck and snapped up a Lavry DA-10 last week.

What DAC do you have in your possession?

How are the Cary's? would love to have a listen one day.

    Cheers

Plenty more to come once I sort it out, although how much will be of interest here remains to be seen. Some small AR bookshelves, a pair of IMF CM3s, a few Marantz receivers, NAD Tuner, Yamaha Tuner, Sansui Tuner (maybe a Cambridge Audio Tuner, Marantz CD63, Rega Curser 3 preamp), Pioneer SA7500 Mk II amp, Elac & Mission speakers - you can get the extent of my space issue!
    Cheers,
    Michael
