Cameron BTW it was you who started me down the path of no preamp the 1st step in the journey was your observation of how I high I set the bass on the preamp.Since your visit I've had the system on flat. Now I'm finding no need for the preamp except as switching device. Funny what we become use to hearing. Cheers mcee
Hi Cameron Thanks for the offer will keep it in mind.1st thing I've got to do is sort out a switch box, 2nd sell the c28,to finance the phono stage. Cheers mcee
I think you would need an active crossover, which means adding another component in the mix and more cabling etc....I've had some detailed discussions about this with the tech guru at JL Audio. You might be interested to read the Stereophile review of the f113. The reviewer's main speakers were Quad Electrostatics.
Hi Orpheus, I've noticed that you have ARC gear feeding Virgo 3s. Pretty rare combo in Aus. I'm running similar sytem. VT100 Mkiii, LS16Mkii, Virgo iiis. I found the bass a bit lean on the Virgos in my large room, so added a JL Audio f112 - made a big difference to the bottom end. My sound is a touch on the neutral side, certainly not warm, but very detailed, with huge soundstage and very tight imaging. If I had a slight criticism, it may be a touch bright, but it is very dynamic. I was thinking of getting an LS5 as I have read many good things about it, but was warned against it, so I recently bought a LS25 Mkii which should be delivered in the next week or so. Not that there is much wrong with the LS16, just that the LS25 has got much better press. I'd be interested to get some impressions about your system.
Hi I see that you have experience with plinius gear. I am looking at a secondhand Sa100 MK3 any thoughts previosuly I was about to buy a musical fidelity A5 pre power but that feel through Warren
