RIP Greg Quill

07 May 2013 - 10:37 PM

Some of you will remember, I'm sure. Country Radio and all. Long-time resident of Ontario, on the back of one of Gough's grants. A good person.

Ambient/'tronic suggestions sought

30 March 2013 - 03:39 PM

Seeking suggestions from youse knowledgeable folk:

The bride runs a massage business, and (particularly since it is moving in-house) we are - or I am - sick of ye whale songs and ethereal 80s angelic choirs accompanying the groans of the clientele.

Couple of years back I picked up juxtaphona & offthesky - Escapekit, and krill.minima - Nautica, which are a bit more aurally interesting, and seem to fit the bill. Just ordered krill.minima's new thing, too.

Matter of fact these things are actually interesting to listen to in their gently evolving ways.

Any other suggestions along these lines? Kinda almost-organic, sans drums material? I've had me head under a rock for 30 years, so it doesn't have to be recent ...

Reliable SATA drives?

30 September 2012 - 09:59 AM

Comrades
I'm running Drobo FS NAS with 2 x WD "caviar" (who knows the price of fish?) green 2 TB drives that contain everything of value to me in the world.

They've spun essentially without pause quite satisfactorily for a couple of years but are now getting noisy. I anticipate failure in due course.

Read Charles Wright in the Age this week recommending new WD black or red drives for such use - i.e. for those who are just too damned lazy to switch things off.

Any thoughts about the most bullet-proof drives amongst you well-informed folk?
