09 March 2013 - 01:28 PM

Hi Earle,

What driver and rectifier tubes best suit your Topaz KT120? can you use 5r4GY rectifiers and are the driver tubes interchangeable between 6SL7 and 6SN7 variants?

Thanks,
George

Tubes for PDX L2

08 March 2013 - 05:03 PM

Hi Mike, I'm purchasing a PDX L2 on Stereonet. It has a few unique features with a Marantz I2S input along with the Hiface and Duelunds. What tubes do you think will suit........ Bill mentioned you have some!!

How difficult would it be to add another spdif input instead of the I2S?

Thanks, George

Zu Druid and mini method upgrades......... Again

25 October 2012 - 08:06 PM

Well time to change my FrankenDruids once again..... From the mk04/08 to Mk4 with Mundorf SIO/12 ohm Duelund to the HO FRD with 10ohm Duelund plus extensive cabinet tweaks and now the new Nano FRD before the Final Radian tweeter upgrade. The really are FrankenDruids.

The difference with the Nano driver is quite startling, way more detail, more speed and dynamics but a little warmer somehow , made me jump and look around quite a few times........ or-though the old tweeter makes itself heard now whereas before it was not.

The Radian tweeter upgrade is on its way with a new network. Sean at Zu recommended the Clarity cap over the Mundorf SIO, smoother yet detailed with the Radian and only just edged out by Duelund Black (values specially made for Zu)

I also upgraded the 2x Mini Method sub amps to the new Hypex model used in the Def 4...... Big upgrade.......wow, PEQ now so it integrates better with the room. Deep, clean, fast and never runs out of headroom.

Good on Zu for offering these upgrades, the new Druids cost $6.5k new subs are $2.5k each in the USA and I'm getting almost the same bar the cabinet and plinth and Lab12 subwoofer all for around $2k except my labour. Sounds like a lot I know but 2 x hypex sub amps custom built by Zu, 2 x Nano FRDs and 2x Radian 850 Tweeter plus cap networks with custom machined tweeter lens assemlbly designed to sandwich and stiffen the front baffle all with 600hrs burn in with precut cabinet damping material. Plus I get to sell my old drivers and sub amp to recoup a little. I'm happy
