#799134 Psychological Illusionist Derren Brown

I'm a big fan of Derren Brown. I'm fascinated by the things he does.

About to get stuck into this - 'Fear and Faith' - apparently it's excellent.

Check out Stokes Bay as well, its on the north coast. From the carpark you walk through a natural tunnel through the cliff and come out to a huge natural rock pool. Beautiful.

#763945 new iphone 5 WOW so much better :-)

Posted by mikizee on 16 September 2012 - 05:05 PM

Yeah I'm pretty underwhelmed by the iphone 5. Considering making the switch to the Samsung Galaxy S III - There seems to be a lot more innovation with Android.

Either way, I'm going to be paying more- the new Telstra plans have jumped quite a bit. Old contract, $49 a month, equivalent now is closer to $75!!!

#751869 Favourite Beatles Abbey Road pressing.

To be honest, it's one of those lps i'd be happy to listen to played back on an Edison cylinder just as long as i could sing (bellow) along to side 2 in its entirety.

You and me both. Especially the crescendo leading up to 'She Came In Through The Bathroom Window'..... I can't help but sing that lyric as loud as I can when it comes up, every time I play it.

#746882 Things you don't see anymore

Posted by mikizee on 11 August 2012 - 10:17 PM

There's still a postie in a neighbourhood 10 mins from my house that rides a bicycle. And also walks on nice days. He is very close to the big AP distribution plant though - so no point having a motorbike.

I had completely forgotten about those glass oil filler containers you used to see at servos!

And as for public phone booths, I used to think there weren't that many around anymore, until my employer picked up the national contract to maintain, repair and collect cash from payphones. There are still PLENTY around.

I'm only 31 but still remember milk in glass bottles arriving on the doorstep, and also the fruit and veg truck that used to pull up on our street every few days.

Here's another one you don't see much

#720553 Emotional / Beautiful Songs

Posted by mikizee on 17 June 2012 - 09:54 PM

Some excellent choices here fellas

I was just having a conversation about Stevie Wonder with my other half, as far as I'm concerned Stevie Wonder songs are off limits for people to cover. Because no one will ever do one of Stevie's songs better than Stevie can. It's just not possible.

Here's a good song

After a few (many) beers last night with a friend the cat knocked my beer glass off the mantlepiece and smashed everywhere. In my hurry to clean it up I ended up with a chunk of glass embedded in my foot which I still can't get out. So much for going for a run today! I'm hobbling around like a bloody idiot!

#715644 The local vinyl scene looks alive and well

Good times for the state of vinyl, for sure.

Here's hoping it only gets bigger. (again)

You have the identical kegerator I'm saving up for :)

#712789 Beer: "proof that God loves us"

Posted by mikizee on 02 June 2012 - 10:16 AM

Brew day!

No time to make an all grain beer today, extract it is. Neill's Centenarillo, using Centennial and Amarillo hops, Nottingham yeast.

In other brew related news, I have been lusting after this - http://www.braumeister.com.au/

Just gotta convince the other half its a worthy investment.

#711270 Quality of Dealer Servicing!!!!

Posted by mikizee on 30 May 2012 - 10:19 AM

Ugghhhh don't get me started on dealership servicing.

I could write a thesis on the cockups that the dealership who services my company car have done. Unfortunately company policy dictates that I HAVE to take it to a particular place for warranty service. Their awesomeness includes, but is not limited to:
- breaking clips on parts of the dash when they had to take it apart, which then left plastic bits just hanging off around the steering wheel
- when attempting to replace a faulty inlet manifold (after only 15,000 kms) they stripped threads in the engine block which meant they had to call in a 3rd party to re tap, took another 2 days (on a company car that I need for work!)
- when attempting to replace a faulty steering column (after only 20,000 kms!) they broke the new part and had to get another one in. They failed to call me and tell me this until I had walked about 5kms to the dealership at 430pm to pick the car up, and they said 'oohhhh it won't be ready today, sorry!'

When I finally picked the car up at 430pm the next day and drove away, this is what my steering wheel looked like when driving straight ahead

Taking it in for another service tomorrow, let's see what surprises they have in store this time!

Managed to score a pre-release carton of Coopers new Celebration Ale, and have knocked the top off a couple. Its sensational. Best beer they've ever brewed!
