Power cable demo opportunities

You could try Audio Principe. Peter is a really good guy, 100% honest and really helpful with excellent products  and IIRC he will sell on a trial basis where you have a "sale or return " arrangement.

His signature power cables are excellent and I use several of them myself

Edit: I note that you are in SA and Peter is in Mt Barker so you could easily call in or have him send it locally.

I can vouch for Peter's exceptional character & the build quality of his products

I'm a convert & solely use his speaker & power cables

Personally I'm a fan of Audio Unique based in Melb. A couple more $$ than Audio Principe, but I'm much more happy with them.. Can't say I've ever had a sound quality improvement using generic power cables such as Dick smith's, but if it works for your ears and your system.......... ;)  :D

Hi guys. Thanks for tips. Much appreciated.

On the topic of Dick Smith cables - let me say that they can be better given the right system and personal tastes. In my experience (limited as it is), shielded cables sound warmer and less energetic at the top end. In an overly warm system, Dick Smith may very well be the way to go. They may also suit those of us who like bright systems.

What cables are you using now and on what components?

Black Sand cable on the CDP (Cary 303/300).

An aftermarket cable (made by an audio dealer in HK) on my pre - Supratek.

Stock cable on my Herron phono stage.

An aftermarket cable that came with my Bryston amp (brand unknown).

Stock cable with my PS Audio power conditioner.

I've performed many blind tests (for myself and others) on power cables of various prices. There is no difference. None at all.

I can easily hear differences between power cables.

To verify my beliefs, I sometimes ask (plead with) my better half to partake in cable blind tests. As she is of the mistaken belief that audiophiles are a bit odd, I figure she should be unbiased.  :unsure:

Guess what… she can also pick the differences, and although she refuses to engage in any dissection and hyper-analysis of the differences, hers and my preferences usually align.

Over time, my conclusions regarding power cables have evolved to be:
- different power cables suit different components;
- power cables can make a bigger difference than interconnects;
- the greater the system's transparency, the greater the difference power cables make; and lastly…
- longer is usually better!

You aren't allowed to use the "wife can hear it" argument unless she was in another room reading/doing the dishes/ having a shower and didn't even know you'd changed the cable/interconnect/shakti stone

What about discussing going on a tropical holiday during testing… would that create bias?  :)

Dick Smith Electronics, though you will need to lay out 5 Bucks for the priviledge. They have generous return facilities. You won't need them, as their cables are as good as any.

But they cost something like 15 bucks!

Probably 3 bucks in China :lol:

Edit: sorry, they are listed at $19,98 :o i tossed out half a dozen a while back.

Thread cleaned and the troll is on a holiday.

It's one thing to debate, it's another to be offensive.

Then there's also the right place/thread to do so. This ain't it.

Conster. Thanks for your observations. I guess like all audio equipment, the only way to find out the best match is to trial the cables. BTW is thicker better as well? :)

Although some may find it visually impressive, I don't believe thicker is necessarily better!

As you have quality components you will get significant improvement with quality Power Cables and they are not Dick Smith.

I have a number of different cables and as Conster stated some suit different components.

The Dr. Hi-Fi cables have made the biggest overall improvement. Appear to be the most versatile, improving Source, Pre & Power Amps. Audio Principe Signature are quite good. Studio Connection and Analog Research Silver Raincoat Reference are good also, need more time with these latter two to make a more definitive assessment. All these cables are  much better than stock cables.

The better the component the more improvement you will notice with quality audiophile cables.
