Agree, definately radiohead's most overated album.

The bends is a great album, so is Kid A and Amnesiac but I have never got why everyone bandwagoned OK Computer including all the press and reviewers

It's OK, but to me it's nothing special. It was definitely different at the time but not necessarily great like some people make it out to be. The Bends and OK Computer were something special. So if you say Kid A is your favourite it justifies in my mind that's it overrated All IMO of course. Thom admitted to writers block after OK Computer and was forced to completely change musical direction due to pressure and lack of musical ideas.

Sorry mate I think I confused you. I did listen to Kid A and Amnesiac a fair bit and did enjoy them both. They were recorded at the same time which you probably already know. Have barely listened to Hail and Rainbows because after a few tracks I'm Zzzzzzzzzz.

I can see it becoming animated!

I love all radioheads stuff and have really enjoyed Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, and In Rainbows. My favourite album is still the Bends. I also think OK Computer is overhyped, however take nothing away from teh album as I think it is more the saturation it got at the time which makes me less inclined to listen to it. It is undoubtably a ball tearer of an album.

I found U2 to be dissapointing live (recently). I have found their song writing mostly lacking since achtung baby. I find they rely on supergroup status to sell and album and only seem to try on a few singles now days. Any thoughts DavidSSS?

Christina Aguilera was dreadful live. My wife had a friend pull out and I scored the left over ticket. I will never get that time back. Xtina was sick, about 6db louder than her band and was so bright I had to listen with my ears covered. Luckily she only did a lazy 30 min set in between costume changes and song intro's. She personally owes me whatever my wife paid for the ticket. I rate her as overrated.

FYI, The bends, ok computer and Kid A are my top 3 but different order to yours. I like Kid A exactly for that reason, the writer's block bit, they had to go back to the basics and work hard to get that album out.

Whitney Houston - I wont go into details but a workmate tried to put the bodyguard soundtrack into th car cd player on a road trip. I almost had to leave his body in a shallow unmarked grave. Luckily I fished it out of the cd player as soon as I realised what he had put on and threw it out the car window never to be seen again. I am sorry for littering, but everyone has their breaking point.

Actually, I like her voice, and her songs are fine, she just has a voice that is already soooooo hackneyed that I cant stand to listne to her. Mind you, having said that maybe she's not so overrated as annoying (to me).

This is a tough question as it appears to me that is not about artists you don't actually like per se, just those one perceives are being overrated.

As for some already mentioned, I do think that Radiohead & particularly The Whitlams are very overrated, also the Foo Fighters.

As for The Buckley's, I am a big fan. I got into Tim in the early 80's & Jeff immediately upon his first release & saw him live not long afterwards. I wish I had the opportunity to see Tim live, but alas I was too young & of course he never made it to Aus.

If we were talking about dislikes I'd probably include Elton John, but his early material is fine & I can understand why he has been so successful. So based on what I assume the criteria to be I'd say he isn't overrated, but certainly not a favourite artist of mine.

U2.....yep overrated!

Artists that come to mind that I think are overrated are many of those crooner types of recent year revival. I really like Frank, but Michael Buble, Harry Connick, umm, what's that other guys name about the same age as Buble & plays the piano? Even Tony Bennett. Anyway, I think they lack very much in terms of originality & are far inferior to their predecessors - Overrated!

Silverchair & Wolfmother are examples of recent Aus bands I think have been overrated. Alas for Wolfmother it appears they have disbanded & another band whom I'd categorise similarly, although not exactly the same style of music were JET.

But the music industry has many examples of bands/artists that they hype up, try & extract large sales for most often their own benefit & then simply forget if they fall into difficulaties of various kinds.

This is why artists or bands that survive for long periods are somewhat unique given the overall scheme of things, whether they be The Rolling Stones, Young, Dylan. Elton John, B. B. King, Nick Cave or even Kylie Minogue. For the few artists who have survived there are simpy a huge number who have fallen by the way side.

As I sit here thinking about those overrated & now thinking this would be a greast topic for some kind of thesis, I now think I've hit the jackpot.

Having grown up in the Coundown era, I'd have to say the most overrated group of all time is:

Lang Lang - the chinese Liberace of today... the technique is certainly there, the musicality is promising if a little iffy/questionable at times, but the bad acting... :eek:sigh... and to the channel 7 olympics commentator that had the nerve to suggest that "Lang Lang is THE best pianist of today" please stop smoking whatever you are smoking as its addling your brain cells...

They took the "country rock" baton from the stupendously fantastic Gram Parsons and proceeded to soften, commercialise and blandify it. And sell a bazillion albums in the process, compared with Gram who sold about 132.

Diana baby...she's a stunner for sure. I think she has a superb voice, great control (she hasnt rung me once this week ) and I love her tone, but she is a very much down the line singer. By that I mean there is no edge to her performances, nothing that stands out as being different or special. She's just a babe with a great voice, which is maybe why she has made it into this list.
She's sounds to me like a product of the New York club circuit, like John Pizarelli. He's brilliant too, but the style is very mainstream and New Yorky.

Anyway I lashed out and bought The Very Best of Diana Krall on 180g vinyl, and its bloody amazing. This is easily the best quality recording on vinyl I have heard, just perfect. Fantastic backing band too of course, some of the best money can buy - Christian McBride, Russell Malone etc.

But yeah, she's over rated.

Oasis....I like the tunes but have you really listened to the lyrics?...total unfathomable nonsense.

Jimmy Page...sure he wrote and produced some of the seminal songs of the 70's with Led Zep, but if you really listen to his guitar playing it's so sloppy,bum notes all over the place partially masked by copious overdubs.

U2....they were a breath of fresh air when they first hit the music scene,I don't know what happened, but everything after Rattle and Hum has seemed a pointless exercise,sort of like the later Matrix movies.[I still haven't forgiven Bono for lousy marksmanship when he started talking with me at a urinal a few years ago,yuk]
