Jake
AMC, knowing that TWD has pretty much jumped the shark (although I still look forward to the next season) have started airing the spin-off prequel called somewhat boringly Fear the Walking Dead. I watched the first episode last night and shall view the 2nd tonight. So far so good, although unlike in early TWD the Walkers possess little fear factor and merely serve as an instrument of story telling. Will see how it progresses, but at least if fills a gap for the time being. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_the_Walking_Dead http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3743822/ https://youtu.be/yzXglr5bc3w
Goatboy
I checked out episode one with low expectations and liked it. Thought the acting was fine and the characters likeable. See how it develops.
ArthurDent
The son, Nick, trying too hard to be a younger Johnny Depp perhaps, is a bit annoying to me. Perhaps that's the whole idea as it is a story of a dysfunctional family coming together to overcome adversity and survive the coming apocalypse. proftournesol
I thought that the first episode was confusing, the second was much better. There's less scope for tension in this series as we already know the outcome, this leaves more space for character and plot development. Hoping... Incidentally Foxtel have 'upgraded my package by taking away all the non=sport channels that I watch and giving me more junk channels (apparently). Now streaming this through Foxtel Go from my country house Austar account that costs me $10 a month less on the same package and has nearly every channel. More bastardly from Murdoch's minions
Richard Cranium
The wife and I watched the first episode together. She whizzed through most of it on 'fast forward' as we were both bored with it after 10 mins. We both thought the actors were weak, the acting weaker and about the same with the storyline. Here's hoping it improves from here on in, we are both looking forward to lots of gratuitous violence and we both hope the lead actors all get eaten alive, sooner rather than later.
metal beat
I tried watching Ep1. Got through about 10 minutes and switched off. might try watching the rest later I watched the rest of ep1 and ep2 last night. Seems sort of a cross between some teen high school drama and middle aged soap opera with Zombies. Acting is terrible Muriel as Richard said - Z grade. It ain't a patch on The Walking Dead, but will probably watch a couple more episodes if only to see if the character acting gets better than the Zombies acting. and as Richard has said, some ultra Zombie violence Edited September 2, 2015 by metal beat
Richard Cranium
With you there MB. Not a patch on a TWD. Episode 1 of TWD had me hooked 2 mins in. This is a poor imitation with poor acting thrown in for bad measure. I'll give it a couple more episodes but if it doesn't improve dramatically, I'll be kicking to the curb where turds belong. Guest thathifiguy
I think the only reason they have created this series is because they want to have more freedom to do what they want, the original series more or less follows pretty in line with the comic series and every deviation they have made has thrown fans of the comics into an outrage. Goatboy
Enjoyed the second episode, am partial to doco style. Also I do prefer the pre apocolypse bit when everything is disintegrating to the end game.
Monk
I think the only reason they have created this series is because they want to have more freedom to do what they want, the original series more or less follows pretty in line with the comic series and every deviation they have made has thrown fans of the comics into an outrage. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I've see nothing wrong with that. If you're going to make a movie based on a book/comic/whatever and then change it, why are people not going to say something? metal beat
After 5 episodes, it is starting to get interesting. All hell is about to break loose. Pity there is only one episode left. Till next year at least
metal beat
Watched the last ep last night. surprisingly short season of 6 episodes. It has been picked up for a 2nd season of 11 or so eps. excellent episode and easily the best that has left me hanglng for season 2 next year.
Goatboy
Agree MB, great first season. Excellent acting, particularly Kim Dickens who's been in a tonne of stuff but loved her role as Joanie in Deadwood. Wasn't expecting the shift from zombie theme to dystopia part way through, but was pleasantly surprised. Now wait for next year !

Cafad
At least this way we get a mid-season fix of zombies which can carry us over until the original TWD starts again. If they had three series our weekly zombie dose could almost become continuous all year round, but I guess that would be too much to ask.
metal beat
Ep 1 and 2 have now played. Not bad and is building up to be pretty good. Especially nice to hear Coxcomb Red" by Songs: Ohia aka Jason Molina being played on the show.
