Ben Harper - Talking

Ben Harper!

Not much said about Ben Harper on SNA?

Don't know why, he's a 'true' performer and the real deal to watch 'live'!

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals have just 'reformed' and have been playing at the famous 'Fillmore'!

They are putting up 'all' of their gigs (at The Fillmore) for free download!

I have downloaded the second gig and I have to say it's phenomenal! Great mix, great setlist, and a fresh excitement from the whole band!

Ben Harper puts a 'lot' of other bands to shame with his 'real' intensity when performing 'live'!

He is playing at the 'Blues & Roots' festival here in Australia over Easter.

I've seen him live and I will say that he is without doubt one of the most intense and exciting acts I have ever seen! (and that includes 'Deep Purple').

Any thoughts out there on this 'true' performer?

I'm a fan too. My fave is the live album with the Blind Boys Of Alabama. The dvd blows me away every time. All classic gospel songs. That was the first time I really realised the Harper has an amazing voice.

Ben Harper is someone who I can take or leave. I reckon 'White Lies for Dark Times' is quite a good album though.

I suspect he would be quite a good live performer.

Yeah, Relentless7 are great, very hard edged.

That's what I like about that album, it has a harder edge to it. More rock oriented, and seems to have more energy than some of the earlier albums of his I've heard.

Oddly enough, it's the rockier albums that don't appeal to me. Live, he is obviously a top shelf artist. Great stage presence. Have seen him at Bluesfest a couple of times. His quieter moments are more meaningful.

I've got a good friend that likes his quieter stuff and isn't into his rockier stuff. Ben can get rather full-on into grungier/hard edged songs, but that's what I like about him! He is so passionate when he plays rock or ballads!

Picked this up a while ago on vinyl. Ben & his mum singing more traditional style country songs. Very nice recording, sung & played with a lot of feeling.

Didn't know what to make of this at first (I think she is a pretty weak singer), but it has grown on me after 5 listens.

I only saw this thread last night, went to the Ben Harper site, and the 4th night of the Fillmore shows is still available (but will time out in a matter of hours).

I'm listening to it now, really enjoying it. Grab it quick, if you dont already have it?

If anyone has the first 3 nights, can you PM me.

I've got the 26th March show, not sure if it's the second or third?

Gonna download the 4th show today.

I'd be interested to get the other 2 shows of anyone has them too.

I'm spinning the 4th night and it has some amazing tracks! Different set list to the 2nd night with some extended gems thrown in! So refreshing to see an artist play very 'varied' set lists from night to night!

Great band! :thumb:
