.......and now you don't.

Recommended Posts

I have spent the best part of my weekend working on an article. I was very pleased with it, and returned to it just now to add some art work, prior to forwarding for publication.

I work in the NOTES app on an Ipad.

Having Cut and pasted one piece of art, I set off to find the next. When I opened up the ' article' again- voila!!!

The whole thing is gone!

This sort of bull.... raises my blood pressure to dangerous levels.

Does anyone know of any tricks to retrieve it, noting I did not select any disposal ' options' in the first place.

Now a comment I have made before. When I first got this Ipad, it worked well in every sense.

With every forced upgrade ( and yes, they are forced- if you do not upgrade , all manner of things disappear or suddenly become un workable) this tablet has become less and less user friendly, and very unreliable.

In its current standing, I consider it to be a piece of crap.

ZM.

:(

So sorry to hear that @@Zen Mister. There's nothing worse, and I've had it happen more times than it should!

I do suggest using a PC, and saving as you go - I've learned this the hard way and generally don't have it happen these days.

I can't offer any suggestions unfortunately to bring it back from the dead :(

Zen I'm no expert on iPads but perhaps restore it back to the original factory setting obviously you'll have to take the updates afterwards but it might clean it up a bit with a fresh install I'm presuming iPads have caches and they tend to get full I haven't done this myself but I'm thinking about it my iPad also gets a bit twitchy at times and it used to work beautifully before as well

Good luck

I also don't know how to retrieve lost info.

is the whole note gone...or just the content of the note?

if the whole note is gone then you maybe somehow changed the account you're viewing.   ie.  my notes app has 3 different account associated (Exchange, Gmail, iCloud .. . . or you can select 'all notes')

do you have the notes app set to sync with icloud?   maybe a hope there if so.

other than that I've got no suggestions,  other than to maybe use a different app in the future.    I use google docs (on iphone and ipad using Godocs app . . on mac using web browser).  It's all in the cloud so less chance of your device deleting stuff I reckon.

Thanks for the feedback. I will have a think about the 'restore settings 'strategy.

Unfortunately, the whole thing has gone- 4 lengthy reviews of the new Tangerine Dream sacds. It took a lot of sweat, and I don't have the fortitude to try and redo from memory.

Get a PC Billy and MS word with auto save applied. No tears then unless it's sadness at how crap your writing is(talking about me here not you)

@@Zen Mister

Billy...your a bit silly according to the Handbrake(jesus I almost alliterated there didn't I!) as I told her over breakfast about your loss and after trying to describe Tangerine Dream which I didn't do really well at(Erm, they're a group, erm, their lead singer recently died, well not singer so much but...erm, umm) she just looked over the top of her bowl of roughage and said: "icloud dummy"

I turned back to the paper and the form guide after that.  So there you go you silly Billy(arghhhhhhhhh) the Handbrake has spoken.

Reassure the ' hand brake' that as a technophobe of the first order, I would no sooner rely on the 'cloud' for security, than, well.....anything really. One decent solar burst, and the sacking of the Great Library of Alexandria will be nothing in comparison.

The IPad should retain what I record, unless I select 'trash it'. On three occasions now, it has arbitrarily trashed of its own satanic accord. Work that I committed hours to.

I have invested in a Computor. It sits in its box in the corner since I learnt how costly it is to maintain even a modest monthly download.

My budget will allow either FOXTAIL or Internet, not both.

My partner votes Foxtail, so I am cool with that.

Having had just casual work for the past two years, the budget rules.

So, that very detailed and lengthy article that vanished up Steve Jobs celestial freckle yesterday is gone. It was bloody good as well.

ZM, Make an appt with the apple shop and take it in to see if they can retrieve your notes. Maybe they can also offer tips on why it happened and how to prevent it happening again.

This is the best place to go to sort out any Apple issues. Advising you to get a PC does not solve your current problem. This might.

Cheers

I wouldn't trust an ipad to retain anything.    Too many tales of software updates etc resulting in loss and way too easy to mistakenly delete something with no undo ability like a normal computer/software.    I get pissed when I lose an sms or email that I've put 5 minutes into. . . if it was hours I think there's be an ipad shaped dent in my wall.

So will there be a forth time or have you learnt a lesson?

Ouch, never a good thing when something disappears like that.

:(

I'd do what Mack said, take it to Apple HQ and see if they can do anything.

Allegedly "techsperts" can retrieve anything that was ever done on a PC even after everything has been deleted and restored, so there may be hope for you.

How annoying!!

I use evernote for syncing my work in progress notes. I find it saves regularly and I haven't yet suffered an unfortunate loss.

I've recently started trying the Microsoft apps, but haven't tried them on an iPad. Not sure if they have a decent auto-save built in
