Hifiplus
Just upgraded my surround processor and although it is very good with cd playback I thought I had heard better so I dragged my Audio Note DAC 1 out, dusted it off and fired it up. Sure enough it is superior the problem is I cant fit it in my rack. Im now looking for something as good (better?, although i dont think that is possible) but in a more convenient size. The Ps audio Nuwave looks like it would fit the bill, although Im open to suggestions.
scuzzii
Chord DAC would be a small unit. Audio GD Ref 7.1 is also very capable. I have both and haven't heard better in what I've tried.

Audiobugged
trinity dac Yeah this should do it! +1 Although surround processor replacement so 2 to 4 (7.1 = 8) trinity dacs needed... Drop a note to the designer and see if he can do a package deal and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to discuss.
Hifiplus
Never heard of the Trinity dac, will check it out. Dimensions to fit would be 200mm wide, 50m high.
kdoot
Dimensions to fit would be 200mm wide, 50m high. Oh, the Flagpole DAC. Nothing else fits that description. (check your units ) Seriously, depending on the sound you are looking for and the gear you're running it from, a Metrum Octave Mk1 might be an option - it would certainly fit the small space. I happen to have one now surplus to requirements if you're interested.
analog brother
very small space you are talking about. both units i suggested will not fit into 200mm x 50mm (w x h) Edited December 22, 2014 by analog brother
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted December 22, 2014 Volunteer Share Posted December 22, 2014 Sounds like a potentially costly exercise. Is there really no way you can keep the AN?

rocky500
Emotiva Stealth DC-1 Dac is close to that size. 214mm x 50mm. Just checked the faceplate and it is 217mm as it sticks out a little futher. https://emotiva.com/products/electronics/stealth-dc-1 I think this is a great Dac but they now use Bongo for freight which is quite expensive. AccuTidal
This is my diy DAC, consists of 22 x 1794 DAC chips in parallel. The theory is parallel dac could reduce jitters? Is there a special reason for this? Personally, if I went down the diy route, I would go all-out too...
