shihan171
I am thinking about changing my pre amp and I came across the AM Audio 2 box pre amp has any one used or heard this pre amp , I live in Perth and I have only seen this on the web site it looks well built and from a well known manufacture who previously was known under the name Stereo Knight , I have seen the dealers web page in Victoria and I know that many members have purchased from him and he is well regarded so I have no concerns there not able to hear this is a problem so I am after you opinions and thoughts on this pre amp . I am using the Rouge Audio Athena pre and it is very good but I have that bug that quite a number of us have to change and try something else so if any member has one in there system I would like to hear from you . petro
daviddsailor
I have the AM-RT1 in my system. It is an excellent preamp and I am delighted with it. I previously relied on the preamp in my Audioaero player and was happy enough with the arrangement until I tried the RT1, now I wouldn't be without it. shihan171
Good to hear that you happy with your choice, this is on my list of 3 pre amps to change , The pre that I am using has the 6H30P tubes which the AM RT uses have you tried other similar tubes in your pre or do have to use that tube only as I found in my pre amp it was just a little to much in the top end so I changed to Tesla ecc82 with better results for me. Also the power connection on your pre to the power box how long is that cable because if I were to go with this pre I would have to place one box on the top shelf and the other box below on the next shelf due to limited height , not able to put both on the same shelf if the cable was to short this would rule out this pre amp for me any other information you could pass on to me about this pre that my help me ,thank you. daviddsailor
I've only had the RT1 for a couple of weeks and it's been in use at least 5 hours each day. It sounded great straight out of the box and I can't say that it has changed over the time. My cables are one metre long and I believe the RT1 can be ordered with longer cables if required. I have no immediate plans for tube rolling but eventually might try some others. To my ears in my present set up I think the supplied tubes are excellent. I have had mixed luck with NOS tubes (developing faults) and probably won't go down that path in future.
Whites
I can't comment on the preamp but I have the AM 805 mono blocs. The quality of the AM gear is excellent and if the preamp is as good as the 805 it will be awesome.
