djb
No one much bothers about radio tuners these days It's all DAB or Spotify ask ;)al - the cheshire cat- he knows these to be superior! In last few hours not only have there been 3 tuners listed for sale Not only tuners but FM only tuners FM only tuners were rare beasts in their day as it was the norm to add an AM section, usually simpler with out sophisticated "gangs" to double their usefulness. I suspect the provision of single function componentry in tuners improves SQ just as it does with the more familiar example of separate: power amp >pre amp >mm phono >SUT. I have never owned an FM only tuner -thanks to dr good vibe beating me to the most famous FM tuner of all the Leak trough line 1962 when it appeared in our classifieds-bastard!n I had hoped to hear telecines heavily modified Troughline when in Brisbane a few months back. Alas it was not to be . Some pathetic story about antenna malfunction. But I digress .... Check the classifieds there are 3 -three- FM only tuners listed for sale. Ebay might see 3 such arcane relics a year. Edited August 6, 2014 by djb
betty boop
I'd love an old tube jobbie ps I have learnt to detest "spotify" hehe dab+ is another thing I tolerate it for back ground music... ...now if they brought out a dab+ valve jobbie... I have even found myself making hasty glances at a bose wave radio  is there one going 2nd hand

djb
So generically do you "FM ONLY" bods believe that less is more? That you get better fm SQ from your tuners because they have no am stage? Why? Any direct evidence?

ThirdDrawerDown
Whats happening with FM anyway? The only stations I want to listen to are the ABC Classic FM, PBS FM, 102.7 community radio and the 2MBS Classical. All are community-based stations rather than commercially-based stations. In common they try to bring Australians together at a cultural level. By virtue of being community-oriented, non-commercial and non-Packer they aren't part of Team Australia and so I suspect their funding is limited, as may be theit future
A9X
I have a Sherwood FM only tube tuner that I use for ABC Classical. The guy I bought it off had his timing set well before top dead centre and had resprayed it in gold hammer tone. It's on the list for a resto soon when I'll remove the offending respray. Pops110
Just got my Kenwood L1000 T tuner back from being fixed, all I can say is hooley Dooley. Such a great tuner, beats the pants off all other tuners I've tried. There is a bit of a write up on Liquid Audio if that interests anyone. Cheered Dave. Sierra
.... I have never owned an FM only tuner -thanks to dr good vibe beating me to the most famous FM tuner of all the Leak trough line 1962 when it appeared in our classifieds-bastard!n I saw that add for that Leak Trough Line tuner pretty well as soon as it was posted ... I thought about buying it at the time as I knew it wouldn't last long ... In the end I passed on it as I already had a nice tuner and I don't spend a huge amount of time listening to it ... My tuner is an Onkyo T9 ... Onkyo's flagship from the late 70's ... one of the better tuners from that era.
