August meeting (Sunday 4th): Duntech and Orpheus Loudspeakers

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Most Australian audio enthusiasts would be very familiar with the names Duntech and Orpheus. Duntech in particular shook the audio world back in the 1990s with its massive Sovereign, thought by many to be just about the best speaker in the world at the time (the rest of the range being just as impressive in the respective price points).

Duntech has been a bit quiet of late but the company is planning a major product revamp and a vigorous market resurgence in the very near future.

Meanwhile, Duntech’s sister company Orpheus Loudspeakers has been chugging along with a successful relatively recent speaker and now a proposed new one under development. The Apollo has surprised all who have heard it at both the Melbourne and Sydney Audio Shows in the last couple of years. Many thought it was one of the best sounds at the Show. For around $2K the Apollo offers a nicely finished and built timbre-veneered enclosure with good drivers and performance way above its price point.

So all this leads to the fact that for our August meeting our old friends Kiat Low and Brad Serhan from Duntech and Orpheus will be demoing the superb Apollo, the proposed Apollo Active and the new Duntech valve amplification which has been designed to specifically drive the new Duntech line as it’s been developed.

Kiat and Brad have presented for us a couple of times and the last time at Haberfield, with the then new Duntech DSM-15 stand mount, the sound was unanimously voted as being among the very best we had at that venue. Epping presents new acoustic challenges but the lads are up for it and ready.

Do come along to this meeting as it promises to be a doozy.

Guests and first-timers are welcome,

Edgar Kramer

President ASoN

If Kiat and Brad are amenable, we'll trial a set of MagicHexa feet and shoes, which I have received for evaluation from Brian at Decibel Hi-Fi, under one of the speaker pairs, to hear if they result in an audible improvement in the Epping hall. Their purpose is to decouple speakers (or other spiked components) and can in some situations result in big improvements in sound stage, stereo image, bass clarity etc.

Cheers,

Warren

  • 3 weeks later...

It's been very very quite from Kiat's side lately, and website seem to have been unchanged for a number of years.....

So I really wonder if there's any activity at all on that side, or are they working so hard they don't have time to do anything on the website?

Major updates have been announced as 'around the corner' for a number of years now......

So is there a DSM-17? or any other things coming up?

Kiat, Speak out loud :D
