Guys, I think something needs to be said in relation to threads being taken way off topic.

General forum etiquette is to discuss the topic at hand, and not to add posts that are "off topic". Being a forum user myself of many years I know that discussions raise / trigger other points and topics. That's when you go and start another topic in the relevant forum.

Getting much more into HiFi and HT myself recently and using these forums more and more, I've been doing quite a lot of searching of threads. I often find the topic I am enquiring about, but the thread ends up talking about blind testing, or the difference (or not) cables make to sound.

I am going to encourage all moderators to start using the "split posts" feature we have to select specific posts and split them to a new topic where a thread gets severely off topic from now on.

I'm just asking you to be a little more thoughtful with your posting to ensure you are not directing the thread off the topic.

Marc I think your point is well made and I suspect I am amongst the more recent cuplprits. This being my first "serious" forum (sounds like a relationship) I know I am getting used to the whole etiquette "thing" on line as well as the new languae ie LOL, SO etc. I know I have found it easy teat the postings as more of a free flowing conversation at times - especially when some good humour banter starts, but this obvioulsy does not always respect other users.

I think it would not be too hard to keep the fun side going whilst paying a bit more attention to the need to stay basically on-topic.

Thanks for the reminder I am sure it will help all get more enjoyment and satisfaction from the site.

Cheers,

Thanks for your understanding Andythiing. It's no "big" issue, and I'm all for fun, humour and a sense of social interaction within the forums. It was just a gentle reminder on how forum structure works. It's topic based.

All good ;)

Phewww! In that case, I'm all for the admins to wave the yellow flag if I stray completely off topic...
