Re-listed, price drop.

Item: Moon Eclipse PSX CD Player
Location: Mornington, Vic
Item Condition: Good as new
Reason for selling: it doesnt play records!
Price: $4400
Payment Method: Cash
Extra Info: see below
Pictures: can post again if requested

Hello,

Simaudio Moon Eclipse PSX CD player, in as new condition.

http://www.stereo.ne...74&d=1224661790

http://www.stereo.ne...73&d=1224661775

http://www.stereo.ne...72&d=1224661761

http://www.stereo.ne...75&d=1224661803

I bought this player direct from the Australian importer of Simaudio, as it was used by him for photo/promotional use and as a dealer demonstrator player. He personally delivered the player to my house. I have had the player for one year and it has operated flawlessly in that time.

At a snapshot it has;
[*]Top loading CD tray with magnetized disc clamping puck
[*]XLR and RCA inputs and outputs
[*]Fully balanced design
[*]BNC digital output and input – very handy for streamed music via a Squeezebox or similar.
[*]LED display & unit controls on front fascia and top panel for easy use from in-front and above.
[*]Suspended Phillips Pro2 transport
[*]Separate power supply unit with umbilical cord

During the life cycle of the Eclipse there were 3 models and this unit was the latest update of the 3, as validated by the Serial Number. The original unit came with a HDCD decoding chip, which was commonly bypassed via a BNC lead digital out and back in the input, as people found greater performance was achieved when the HDCD chip was bypassed. This unit does not decode HDCD.

This unit has been upgraded by the importer to PSX standard, meaning that the main board from a PSX (the model above the standard Eclipse) unit was used. The PSX unit comes with a full width chassis power supply. This unit does not have the full width power supply casing, but it does have the same internal components as the PSX. The improvement in the PSX main board is selected matched components of far greater tolerance over the standard Eclipse.

The standard Eclipse retailed for in Australia $12,000 and the Eclipse PSX retailed for $14,000. The Eclipse Limited Edition sold locally for $15,000

The Eclipse is no longer a current production model and it was recently replaced in the Simaudio line up by the highly regarded flagship Andromeda which has a local RRP of $21,000.

My Eclipse is for sale for $4,400

The unit comes with a brand new remote, which has had no use by me, as it is identical to my Moon P-5 pre amp remote, which is machined from a billet of aluminium. Manual and original box is also supplied. I also have the receipt from the importer along with written confirmation of this particular units upgrade.

I am happy to demonstrate this player at my place or even bring it to yours, if you are reasonably local (at least in Victoria!) and are genuinely interested.

Some pic’s.

Hopefully not a divorce lawyer

Too soon to tell, as I guess players like this don't sell every day of the week, so while I do have a targeted replacement in mind, I am not thinking too far ahead.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I just saw this and I am rubbing my eyes with disbelief. LD, that is an awesome CD player you have there. I seem to recall when we A-B'ed it against the Cary, it came out on top. Best of luck with the sale, and even if you don't sell it ... you've still got an awesome CDP.

Good luck with the sale.

Its just a step to the left. At this level an if it synergies with the rest of the gear in a system , Bingo

this could go well with my pre :D

well i can honestly say, i auditioned this at home with current players costing $12k and it performed brilliantly. If it did sacd i may have kept it here at home.

So anyone looking for a brilliant sounding cdp that will be perfectly cared for, i would not hesitate to recomend this player

Hi LD

I remember purchasing a Meridian G08 from a certain person not that long ago. I am still using the G08 and love it to bits. But like you always looking for an upgrade - even if i always seem to be picking up other peoples "hand-me-downs". How do you rate this compared to the G08? I guess i could always take this off your hands and do a comparison for myself and sell what i don't like? Let me think about it ... i will go away now and do a bit of independent research (ie. google) on this piece of kit.

cheers

I'm very very tempted as well as I had billed source as my next upgrade and this is one crazy bargain. I'm even all cashed up for it, but I'm not very happy/stable with my employment atm and might need that cash to support myself if I need/decide to look for a new job....

Hopefully no one else snaps this up before I get a bit more certainty back in to my finances.

JohnA, did you grab LDs pre as well?

Hi Jeff

Yeah the Meridian is a great player and I am glad you continue to enjoy it. I really like the bottom end of the G08.

In terms of a comparison to the Eclipse, Well I do remember being happy with the upgrade at the time (still am btw). The Eclipse does reveal more of everything and it has a superior top end and mid band. I believe this player better rewards higher caliber gear elsewhere in the system and my guess would be, more so than what the Meridian would. That said, I still rate the G08 highly, but this is better.
Cheers :)

Hi again Jeff

Forgot to mention, build quality on this is miles ahead of the Meridian. The transport is way superior, in that it is a suspended Phillips Pro 2 transport, v's the CD Rom based Meridian. Like the Meridian, the display can be turned off.

In my system it sounds best running balanced and it is designed to be powered up at all times.

The remote is a heavy aluminium jobby and it would bring down a would be thief from 20 meters if thrown with force!

One last thing, I am getting a bit of interest in this, my listed price of $4400 is firm, which I belive is a great price and is certainly lower that what I believe this player is worth.

Nice one! My other option once the job settles was to sell my current kit and go active. As I've got an integrated amp I would have sold this off and grabbed a nice pre (like the Moon Pre you now have).

On topic: I would like to present LD with a community award for providing members with great value gear (although he loses a few brownie points from me and gains a few from the purchasers for pricing them so cheaply that they haven't lasted long enough for me to grab ).

Good luck with the sale. If you have problems getting the full amount you want, I should probably be able to take it off your hands in a couple of months.

Nice one! My other option once the job settles was to sell my current kit and go active. As I've got an integrated amp I would have sold this off and grabbed a nice pre (like the Moon Pre you now have).

There is another Moon Pre in Melbourne that could be available at the right price.

Looks like the interest in your player is heating up LD, good luck and hope it sells soon.
Cheers;
