I consider myself a newbie still though I've been working in the store for two and a half years now,
so much to learn with Hi Fi, I love it, not too many dull moments either as we are on a busy street.

Before there I was working at... Good Guys, Bing Lee, Retravision, Hi Fi Corp. (what a joke that was),
Dick Smith "Powerhouse" and various video stores, and nightclubs before that... yes I'm old..

when 3d televisions came out i had totally had enough of selling TV's (my specialty)
and wanted a new stereo... bought a few bits and pieces along the way... ok a lot of bits and pieces learning as I went
what I liked and didn't,

my current setups are,

Two Channel:

Sources
Sonos ZP90/Connect (friendlier new name)
Cambridge Audio 650bd (as a cd transport)
HP Proliant server with enough HD space as to be embarrasing
Rega Planar 2 with Grace 707 Tonearm and Ortofon OM-20 (poor things next to get upgraded) NOW SPARE!!!
Rega RP6 in black, ordered and waiting for the Groovetracer Subplatter and XTM1 Acrylic mat in black and XTM2 cork mat

DAC
Rega Dac (black as the silver one doesn't sound as good.... joking but my workmate has the silver one and we give each other hell)

Amplifier
Luxman SQ-38u

Speakers
Spendor SP2/3R2 (often miss pronounced Splendor) (had to wait over a month at the time cause I wanted walnut ..looks gorgeous)

Cables
Chord Crimson interconnect (also things next to get upgraded, bought for the surround system originally)
Chord Carnival Silver Screen speaker cable (also things next to get upgraded, bought for the surround system originally)

Surround System

Sources
Cambridge Audio 650bd (as a cd transport) shared with both systems
HP Proliant server with enough HD space as to be embarrasing shared with both systems
Roku Roku 2 XS (used for streaming Netflix, Hulu+, Crackle etc..)
Pioneer CLD-2850 (Laserdisc player hey I think it's cool OK! besides I have over 1100 discs for it) :-P (many spares if your after some... $5 each for more than one and will swap)
Tivo (hacked for 1tb internal years ago)
PS3 60GB (original Australian release and also hacked and larger drive in it too, love emulators can't run Netflix though cause it's hacked hence the Roku above)
XBOX 360 (hacked as well, I love a challenge)

Receiver
Cambridge Audio 650R (horrid menu but very nice sound for music)

Speakers
Paradigm Studio 20's Fronts (piano black)
Paradigm CC490 Center (still need to get around to upgrading my unmentionable rears and SUB)

Cables
Chord Carnival Silver Screen speaker cable
HDMI cables are another thing I've cut corners on, mean to upgrade to better ones and yes I've had a fair few fail or flake out on me over the years so it's high time I treated myself to some high quality ones, we got a good deal on some Chord high end ones I've been thinking of at work..

Bedroom

Sources
PS3 160GB Slim (unmodded, proud of me? bought just to use for Hulu+ and Netflix in the bedroom cause Apple TV 3 couldn't be hacked as yet and had no Hulu+ just found out they added it a couple of days ago dammit)
Sonos ZP90/Connect (friendlier new name)

Amplifier
Luxman L-80v (I love the old fashioned look of the wood clad Luxman's old and new.. this one is from 1975 and was given to me not working by the guy I bought most of my Laserdiscs from and brought back to life by our awesome and strange repairguy, he is great at vintage amplifiers, and fast... makes me want to set up my own vintage amplifier niche Hi Fi, Record store / trendy cafe.... he's that good..)

Speakers
Legend Joey's (rosenut) fantastic neutral sounding speakers, built sturdy as hell

Kitchen
a pair Sonos Play 3's (very handy to use as an alarm clock, casual listening and connect my NAS to the network as I've run out of connections)

originally wanted to use the one receiver for everything but fell for the Spendor's first listen and had only just bought the Paradigm Studio 20's

as you can see I've bought a bit of stuff, had a big break up with my ex and had to sell my unit and I've been treating myself ever since
if asked what my favourite product is at work I'd have to say Sonos, but connected to a DAC and a proper amp and speakers...

I've been a long time lurker on here on StereoNET but haven't posted before, until I thought I'd try and get rid of my
Linn Majik DSM
(to no avail yet though and am getting more tempted to keep it, but how to justify it to the missus?)

also have a Luxman L-480 up for grabs as well (used to be my main stereo amplifier connected to the Spendors until I talked myself into the SQ-38u
was using the Linn Majik DSM with the Legend Joey's until I got the Luxman L-80v

Sorry for posting an ad for my Linn without first introducing myself, hoping to spend a long time in Hi Fi, and yes that means I plan on being around on here as well,
any questions feel free, if I don't know the answer I know who to ask, either here or in the store, we tend to keep a very low profile on places like this...
but I use this and other resources just like you guys, may as well be the resource as well I figure...

Thanks,
Justin

(please note what I say does not reflect the views of the store but is purely my own view... I like my job... :-P

Welcome, Justin. I enjoyed your intro but it left me wondering what system you have in the shed ;-)

I think you have everything covered for music in the house.

Because I work from home and can play music or the radio, I don't use my ipod to play music when I away from home. Just a break from music.

ah! in the shed... ok well, a pair of Sony floor standing speakers free to a good home if anybody wants them, as well as a pair of what looks like home made bookshelf speakers I found which are currently being used as a base for my vintage Vespa in pieces..

Thanks Jventer, I like it too, sadly it has no takers.. I was so used to how the streamer in Sonos worked (we use it at work every day) that how you setup the Linn and stream from music services via Songcast seemed alien to me at the time.. I may wind up keeping it for the Joey's as it sounded quite nice actually (was just using it as DAC and amplifier with Sonos) but my old Luxman looks great in there.. (easier to sell vintage Luxman gear too it seems)

well djb in my defence I did try to move the Linn on but no takers.. so it sits in the box in the spare room... unsure whether to swap it out with my lovely sounding Luxman L-80v in the bedroom..

Hi Justin,
Welcome to SNA.
I drop into your store on occasion if I can find a car spot on busy King St!
You may recall I purchased the Spendor SA1 with matching stands late last year.
They are still singing!
Cheers,
Victor.

Hi Victor, they are amazing little speakers the SA1's we use them everyday, still blow us away, we listen to a lot of different stuff as our taste is different and they work with so many types of music, my boss has a pair

except as he has a young child they sit in the box until the child is older...

Glad you like them, I couldn't justify them for the bedroom so got the Legend's..

I almost sold the SA1's until I compared them to lots of different speakers around and above its price point.
There is something magical about them that keeps you listening to the music where others have long bitten the dust.

The Joey SE's I heard in your shop would get my second vote after the Spendors as sublime small speakers.
Gotta get a pair one day to match with my Redgum amp...
