Hi,

Does anyone have any opinions on the Accusound Reference 6.6XD speaker set? I will be running them with a Yamaha RX-V430 amp

Thanks, Bailey

I have heard a few speakers from this brand and they are terrible (even considering the price).

For that price range ($500-1000) you should be looking at second hand bookshelves or floorstanders ... forget subs and surround/center. You will end up with MUCH nicer sound for your money .... and you can add the rest later if you are building HT setup.

If you must have a full surround setup for under $1k, then head to Harvey Norman or similar .... the size will be physically smaller, but the SQ will destroy "white-van" speakers like the above ones.

In my opinion Accusound are fair value for the price but the best speakers they have made were the delta series. The new HD series may be as good (haven't heard them so I can't really say) but I would say that if you want to go with an Accusound setup aim for the HD series. For HT they are pretty good, for music there are better out there.
If you would like a pair of the old accusound deltas I have 4 of them.

I don't know why given the advertised price on Wharfedale gear certain websites, but there's always deals going on Ebay, here are some -

I'd much rather spend <$1k on some Wharfedales than those accusounds, it seems the ebay seller is a good one too given the feedback..

Ok thanks everyone for the opinions,

Im not looking for audiophile quality stuff, im more just looking for something that will provide a nice flat response with no harsh peaks that will hurt my ears. Im only 12 (but believe me i know my stuff) so my parents arn't going to spend $1000 on me :P. Im sure these will be a large improvement than my crappy aiwa sub and teac/lg diy bookshelves!

In that case Yuilly I would say yes, they will be a significant improvement on your current gear. Also since Accusound use a soft dome tweeter throughout their range any harsh highs should be kept to a minimum.

I ordered the speakers and recieved them today. They are great! the tweeter does an awesome job of the highs its crisp and clear, the mids do voice really well, and the woofers play good lows and warm clean mid bass. The subwoofer has a varible phase which is nice to, but anything more than half volume and it sounds muddy and distorted. The subwoofer sounds as good as the $1000 jensen sub my parents own, it doesnt shake the couch as much but it gets loud!
