It could be said that all the above purchases were 'necessities' and have nothing to do with GAS. Nice system.

I don't tend to focus on what I have purchased recently, averages over the years are a better indication. Years between 0-15 have been helping to keep my average numbers OK. My forward projections are also taken into account, between 100-150 I am not planning on acquiring much, and very little when I exceed 150 years of age. Actually, I don't spend that much really, on average.

About two pages of stuff, but primarily:

Audio GD Ref 5.2
NAD M51
Hypex Ncore monoblock amps
Empirical Audio Sychro-mesh
Audiophilleo AP2
Celestion Ditton 11 speakers
Various squeezeboxen
Lots of DIY parts for amps/power supplies/cables
Pro-ject III Classic
Ortofon 2M Black
PS Audio GCPH phono stage
Pro-ject speed control
Pro-ject Pre
Pro-ject tuner
Fetzilla amp (Aspen)
Jungson Moon Harbour DA-CD3 HDCD player (I will be likely selling this soon as I don't havbe anywhere for it to go)

I have suffered GAS to the point that it took a front seat in my daily routine, trawling SNA and other forums for the latest ideas, totally distracting me from the more important things in life. I've decided that from today, I will have a 12 month cold-turkey where I buy nothing other than new music. The fact I haven't had a job since March adds extra emphasis.

I should now kick back and enjoy what I do have, and not worry about being a gear mongrel.

Listening to stereo & stuff............. and back in the rat race :)

Actually, when I demo'd the F110, F112 and F113 together. I preferred the F110 over the other two for 2ch. The F112 and F113 were more optimised for HT IMO.

I don't qualify as suffering from GAS because my budget doesn't allow it... Only 1 purchase in that time-frame (Plinius CD101).

You need to get off that audio diet of yours Luc, it's not good for you. You should be building up your eardrums with constant use, not allowing them to languish and decay due to lack of exercise.

I'll pass this message on to the handbrake in the hope that she see's the real reasoning behind certain things that I do...it's all actually for her; A happy Luc is a happy hubby and a happy hubby is nice hubby, one that does ...no, not going there in a public blog  but she'll feel the love...surely?

Cherry wood finish, unobtrusive, only need a valve amp to really make them sing(say that very quickly) and of course the crummy old hifi stand really needs an update to match the speakers and a couple of extra shelves for the amps and then there is the question of bi-wire+single cables and the fact that you need more than(wipes mouth...).

Yep, I'll pass this sage advice on Cafad :party

Couple of Manley Mahis, few Anthony Gallo orblets for the HT side, few bits of MF X-blah V3, a set of Beyerdynamic cans, enough bits to construct three SE amps once I make up my mind what I am building & enough cabling to wrap around that pile a few times.
Yeah, I think I have the GAS.

Cheers,
D

The best gear I like collecting is listening rooms.

3x4m
3x5m
4x6m
6x9m

One day after moving into a tiny 2 bedroom apartment, I realised that all that money, time and effort obsessing about differences in equipment was a waste of time. My $10K piano sounded crap. What I really needed was a better acoustic venue. So now over the years I have acquired several listening spaces. The small ones can't be helped eg. the study, but my best room is 6x9m, opening out into another room, carpetted, lots of soft furnishings, high ceilings.

All instruments can now breathe, you can play loud but it never hurts your ears, and speakers are at least a metre or two from any given wall, there is no TV or screen or gear in the centre to ruin the soundstage- images are locked in and voices just hang in the air. And the bass is just stupendous.

Luckily these days most homes have "theatre" room. If you really love music, get rid of the television, convert it to a dedicated music room and your best instruments, studio or hifi gear will sound vastly better.

Yes...........I have an 8x4m room with 3m ceiling.
No carpet, just a couple of rugs.
The opening is at the end of one of the long sides and it works like a horn there!
It really carries into the adjoining room.

HOORAY ! ! ! Finally on an audio forum I encounter someone who understands the most important audio component is the listening room. Get that wrong and you sure as hell are wasting your money. What really pisses me off though is the stupidity of audioporn press adds that tirelessly illustrate state of the art speakers being run in highly replicative acoustic nightmares. Go figure !

Yes, the real world rears it's ugly head ( usually in the form of She Who Must Be Obeyed) but that doesn't alter the reality that given an acoustically awful room the most carefully assembled collection of audio gear is wasted. Even digital room correction can't cure really bad acoustics.

I am a model of restraint and musical virtue.

I have
1 CD player
1 top loading transport and matching DAC
2 amplifiers
2 pairs of speakers
and a pair of speaker cables blessed by angels for harmonic efficaciousness and joy.

So very modest, but someone needs to show some restraint. :P

In the last six months I bought a pair of Usher S20 speakers, a Zoom HN4 digital recorder and a pair of Etymotic 'phones. The latter could be said to be accessories, but they are *so* much more than that! Just over six months ago I purchased my beloved PMC OB1 speakers.... Time flies when one enjoys one's purchases... ;-)
