surfpurple dropped around last night with a few tracks to listen to, Now this pretty much amounts to a GTG down here on the south coast.

surfpurple is the only other SNA member I know of that lives with in a hour drive of my place(15 mins), although there are another couple of SNA members that would be just over a hours drive away. But who wants to drive over a hour after a days work to listen to a couple of tracks, So a proper GTG is a rare thing in these parts with time on weekends so hard to find.

This was a return visit for the couple of visits SP had kindly organised for me at his place. Sp's knowledge of music and bands far outstrips mine and I have immensely enjoyed a couple of afternoons listening to and talking about bands that although I had heard of, I hadn't listened to or could 'place' their music.
These where very educational and resulted in long lists of new music to chase down.

So it was time to have SP back for a proper listen as during last couple of visits Sp had made here, I had only spun music from my collection that Sp hadn't heard before and therefore he was unable to identify how my system performed and he wanted to return with something that he was familiar with to be able to assess it's performance in relation to his.

We only were able to pick a couple tracks from each artist, to enable us to get through all SP had wanted to sample before his assigned home time.

So this is what he spun tracks off

Yep, but most of us now have 'the boss' to answer to. Far scarier than any parents.

And yes, I had great time.

A big thank you dor for your generous hospitality.

I had a ball (how could I not, having the 'pick' of most of 'my' music to listen to on such a good quality system).

You seem to be making great headway into your 'computer music set-up. Very well orgnised catagorisation of music files, and ALL in flac!

Hopefully we can have another GTG 'on the south coast' very soon.

I'm actually looking forward to listening to 'your' music on my system Fri.arvo. I have heard some good stuff and a 'proper' listen should discover some gems hopefully.

Might message you Sat. after my listen.

It was a pleasure SP, now I just have to wait for the next one.

I would like to extend a invitation to any other south coast members(I'm located a little south of Ulladulla) that would like to join Sp and myself one afternoon, to please contact me either in this thread or by PM.

Thanks Rod, for another great evening of music on you're system.

You're system continues to grow on me as it is becoming more 'musical' the more I get used to it. I always liked the big 'wow' factor of my system (in 7 CH) but after tuning my ear into yours, I am becoming more interested in 2 CH stereo!

My mind-set in gradually changing and I'm starting to appreciate the '2 channel purist' way of listening!

I always come away on a 'high' (musically) with lots of new ideas for tweaking my system.

Can't wait for another 'listen'!

Last night Surfpurple and a non member (Matt, who introduced me to Hifi) dropped around to spin a few tunes.

surfpurple arrived first and quickly found his spot in the listening chair, and had enjoyed half a dozen tunes before matt turn up with his dacmigic under his arm. After a bit a cable gymnastics I had the dacmagic and my 840c and maverick hooked up and ready to quickly switch between the three. The maverick performed well and to my ears easily outdid the dacmagic while the 840c was in a different class(and price range).

After a quick play, we buckled down to the serious stuff of spinning more tunes. Here's a selection of the albums that tracks where played off (the ones I can remember, Surfpurple might remember so others)

At ten thirty and 90+dB the boys finally cried enough and left to do battle with my muddy driveway.

It's always great to enjoy music with others, so I'll extend my invite again to any south coast members to join us, just contact me.

Well, all I have left in my collection is "The Best of Mrs Mills", some choice Acker Bilk, a bit of Winifred Atwell, and a lovely original tarmac of "Slim Dusty Live at WAGGA WAGGA". So, if you provide the Pinot, I will bring them instead. Deal!!!!!
I am packing my port as we speak, see you in a little while. Zen.

New music is always welcome, and thank goodness all those would be new to me. :D (I think my mum might have subjected me to Acker in the 70's)

With the vinyl I suppose I could solder a nail to a tin can and rig up some kind of spinner. :party

LP, what was the source? Is the DISRAELI GEARS track, " WE'RE GOING WRONG" the contender. Jack Bruce is also a brilliant vocalist, much uncelebrated. You have my attention....

Jeff can't sing!

Whoever he stole from was a much better 'voice' than him! IMHO.

I am still 'buzzing' from my last visit to 'Dor's' !

Listening to other peoples systems is a real highlight. As well as hearing other's songs that you haven't heard, or hearing some of your favs. on a better system!

Love your work, guys.

I spend a bit of time down the south coast. It is heartening to hear that the tendrils of the SNA community are active in such beautiful surrounds. It has not ever occurred to me that that would be the case.

I am actually planning a camping trip in the first week of August down that way. If anyone wants to listen to some the of music I have posted in the electronic thread - let me know (via PM) and I will happily oblige. Happy to drive where ever to spread the love of good electronica...

EDIT: No music that sounds like a car alarm - only consciously crafted and artistic music would be brought.

A couple of tracks from Nils Lofgren were also played at the 'South Coast' GTG.

Posted Image

Nils Lofgren live - 'Daddy Dream'
(Lengthy song which continues to build with some excellent complex guitar work)

Posted Image

Self titled - 'If I Say It, It's So'
(Catchy with great little riff)

Cry Tough - 'For Your Love" (Yardbirds cover).
(A very different but captivating version)

There are quite a number of people that think that electronica = doof, doof = car alarm.

I look forward to (hopefully) meeting some of you guys in the not-too-distant future.
