Hi all. I live down towards Geelong. I came across SNA searching for a Hi-Fi classifieds and love it. This is a great community and you all have so much helpful advice on how to spend one's savings.
I've been slowly upgrading my system for the last couple of years, starting with jb hi-fi specials and moving onto Whatmough, JM Lab, Bowers and Wilkins to my current Dynaudio Contour 3.4s which I have paired with an Audiolab M-Dac currently running straight into a Bryston 4bsst2 pending my discovery of a good pre-amp to add to the collection. For CD I use a Musical Fidelity Elektra E61. The chord company and tara labs supply my interconnects and speaker cable.
The majority of my music can either be found on CD or in flac format on the computer.
Anyhow, I look forward to all your helpful advice on how best to improve my system. Cheers, Ash.

Nothing like a bit of spending to promote a healthy economy, although, there'll be no surplus in this household.

Welcome to SNA Ash.

What are your impressions of the Bryston 4bsst2?

Welcome to SNA Ash.

What are your impressions of the Bryston 4bsst2?

Hi Milo,

The 4bsst2 is a fantastic piece of gear. I auditioned gear for a considerable time before selecting it and am very happy with the result.

Once I had decided to buy the Dynaudios I knew I had to find a new power amplifier that would complement them. The 4bsst2 does that well as it has plenty of power to give the rather inefficient Dynaudios and the sounds complement one another well.

The build quality is fantastic as one would expect from Bryston and of course that 20 year warranty is a great selling point.

It is a very neutral amplifier which I find enjoyable, however, I have spoken to a few people who don't enjoy that quality so an audition is a must. It works well with the Dynaudios as they are also quite neutral. I've also used the 4bsst2 with my old B&W 801s and it seemed to work quite well with their slightly warmer sound and they responded very well to the amount of power available. Unfortunately I haven't trialed it with enough different speakers to comment further on what it might suit.

The Bryston gives my Dynaudios excellent control, it has a high damping factor that keeps the bass tight and musical and gives the music those "blacks" that we all look for.

I think to do it justice I am going to have to add a dedicated preamplifier to my system, running from the M-Dac straight to the Bryston sounds good but it is rather limiting in functionality and a good preamp can only add to the sound. Speaking of which... does anyone know of a Bryston BP20 or 16 for sale?

Anyhow, I'm not very good at product reviews, but I am very happy with my 4bsst2. A nice sounding, good value, amplifier for fans of SS gear.

Cheers,

Ash.
