Sad to hear. And of course a speedy recovery but with modern methods its not really a problem - you will eventually be back as good as new.

Thanks

Sure is.

In a hifi context, the biggest challenge now is affording the medical bill that will flow my way. Will likely have to sell most everything I own and then start again from scratch in a coupla months.

Too much bungy jumping, or hanging from the chandeliers perhaps? :)

Sorry to hear about the eye problem, but glad to hear the surgery went well. I guess that means you will be relying more on your sense of hearing while you convalesce, so I'd say a system upgrade is called for!

Glad to hear you are all ready on the mend, and in good spirits!

Out of curiosity - did you consider going to a public hospital? This would have been an ophthalmic emergency and all costs covered by medicare.

Yup, happened out of the blue. Woke up with a big blotch obstructing my view. Ugh.

A warning to everyone: if EVER you see little bright flashes of light in your eye (when you blink) you could possibly have a torn retina. You need to get to a hospital the SAME DAY.

JD, like Audio Geek, I'm wondering why you're going to be shouldering the financial costs of your treatment. In emergency situations I've personally found the public system excellent. Also, as a now ex-nurse, who has worked in both public and private hospitals, I found there really wasn't a lot of difference in level of clinical care between the two. The difference in quality of surroundings and food is another matter!I wish you a speedy recovery John. Music can be a great contributor in the healing process, so don't sell off gear unless you REALLY have to!

Wishing you a speedy recovery JD. Yikes, to think you can just wake up with the condition is somewhat scary to say the least! :(
Interesting about the blue flashes. From what you describe this could be an indication all is not well in the optical department?

I'm sure all here have their fingers crossed that you won't be out of action for very long. Take care.

Alan R.
