I am following Ozmillsy's footstep to try to rip the SACD discs I have. I am installing PSL1GHT via the CygWin method while waiting for my PS3 to arrive.
However when I tried to install the dependencies, I hit connection time out probelm as followed:
Working directory is /setup
Mirror is ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/cygwin
--2012-04-02 11:31:47-- ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/cygwin/setup.bz2
=> `.listing'

Retrying.
I am not sure where the error is. I have Windows firewall turn off but I still hit the same problem.
Can someone help?
Thanks.

Good luck with your quest to get SACD ripping working.
I have ripped my collection of sacd's (over 100 titles), and have never needed to use or install PSL1GHT for my task.
I have relied on obtaining compiled copies of the sacd_extract/ripper utility.
My thread on SACD dff extraction contains links to compiled versions of the utility. So my advise is, do what I did, and use these - don't waste your time trying to compile your own.
Please do let us know (in the other thread) your successes or challenges in getting it working.
All the best, Oz.

I agree. I am just starting out and still have only done 13 of about 150 titles (mostly classical, as I was able to score maybe 45 (new/mint) Penatatone titles for about $9 each locally. Pity Pentatone has stopped selling overstocks to dealers...
I was able to get some Pragas and a few Corviellos too, for the same price.

I was impressed with the SQ of most of these titles, that I ended up pursuing all the remaining titles in the range via ebay, and now have them all. A few of them were quite pricey. Anyway, the point is, there is plenty of affordable high quality titles to be had. The few Pentatones I've heard have been great.

Avalon is becoming rare, because of a manufacturing fault. Alot of them are delaminating with age (mine included).
Make sure you rip it then!
I have it on regular CD, actually HDCD, as well.

You may get another few weeks out of it with the hairdryer solution, no?

I was just thinking, If you are able to even get it working for a while, why not try to keep it stabilised using water cooling system? I myself was lucky, I have a working one and I bought another one that has a YLOD which I bought as a backup as I will if I ever need to, swap drives.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on
