Hi guys, I've lurked in the background on and off for a few years now, A few names ring bells from AK, but my "new" user name might throw them. Its aussiedan over there.

Until now, I have mostly been playing with vintage Pioneer gear, main stack lives in my workshop office and has
Pioneer PL-A45D with ortofon stylus
Pioneer SX-434 (daily workhorse)
Pioneer SM-G204B, with a spare SM-G204 (18 valves each)
Akai AT-245O Tuner
Technics RS-X980 deck
Pioneer PD-F1007 301 disc player (not strictly vintage, but its good)

Plus all the other orphans I have adopted.

Recently done some living room upgrades;
Sony Bravia KDL40EX720
Sony BDP-S580
Pioneer analouge VSX-531, soon to be upgraded, and possibly my motivation for joining.

So I'll probably ask a heap of dumb questions about HT. Probably about a lot of stuff you guys take as a given thing, but I really don't know much, so please forgive me.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you all, and chatting.
Thanks, Darth.

Which reciever? The solid state one or the tube one?

The VSX-531 will be for sale, the silver SM-G204B (and the brown 204), well, you'll have to wait till I die. Both 50 years old this year, I expect to have them for a while yet (I hope!)

But you're welcome around for a listen...

Awww, c'mon man, wouldn't you like some nice black faced VSX action in your lounge?

You leave my little darling tube amp out of this!

For fun, if I said 12AX7 x 3, and 6GW8 x 4, would you be jelous?

They both share the same schematic.

I had one of these............

http://home.alphalin...ie/SM-Q300B.htm

I loved the sound of it but sadly after many years it gave up the ghost in a spectacular way.
Like that fellow, the condition was quite poor so I salvaged what I could from it.

The are a very nice looking unit, but not having heard one, I can only assume it was great. Well, if mine are anything to go by.
I have only ever seen 3 SM-G204/B's on flea bay, and I bought 2 of them.
I think the SMQ-300 had a couple more output watts (real watts!) than the 204's.

I thought the brown one had gone to god when old mousey decided to camp out under the transformer, I thought he fried it, just as the transformer fried him. Turned out the coupling caps were all the blew. Phew! So its still running, but I keep it as a spare now.
