Listening to some samples on YouTube. Some of it has a Songs From The Wood feel.

Hoping JB's has it next week in store, looking forward to hearing what Steven Wilson did with the 5.1 mix.

Must confess, I am rather anxious about this. Having seen the band on four occasions, going right back to the seventies tours, particularly the classic shows at Festering Hall, the last being a concert at the Concert Hall in Melbourne, I am satisfied I have seen them at the top of their art. A few weeks ago, I caught the AVO session on FoxHell. Ian was struggling to work around the fact that his voice seems irretrievably damaged. The flute work was as good as ever, and he continues to be a fantastic showman, but I felt quite sad at the end of it.
What a tragedy that one of the most distinctive and articulate vocalists in all rock, should lose this part of his talent.
So, I will let others do first listens to this, and await detailed reports. In the mean time, I will pop on Passion Play(on original vinyl), slide into my codpiece, stand on one leg and salute the genius that is Ian Anderson.
This Was, Dingo.

G'day,

I've listened to TAAB 2 a few times now. It sounds like typical late period Tull IMHO, a collection of songs describing the life of Gerald Bostock (the fictional 8 year old who 'wrote' the original TAAB lyrics). Ian's voice aint what it used to be, and there's narration linking some of the songs, sounding uncomfortably close to The Hare Who Lost His Spectactles in places. So it's okay, neither embarrassing nor essential.

I think it was all downhill after Aqualung.
Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

I went to see them last year at the state, absolutely fantastic.
The sound was spot on. It was great to be listening to the music instead of trying to reject it.
My only complaint was he doesn't seem to know how to finish some of his songs, and it takes the wind out of your sails a bit when it comes to the applause.

I was wearing one of his T shirts on plane back to the coast and a guy asked me if I went to see them, after I answered I asked him if he went. He replied that he sore them at Blues fest and the State, so I asked him what he preferred and his answer was "Blues fest, it was heaps louder". So there you go.

I feel there were many great songs after Aqualung, but maybe never any great albums.
