Warn Status on your Profile?
#1
Posted 29 March 2012 - 12:06 PM
I've been contacted by many members (some in a very unpleasant manner!), asking why they have a warn status on their profile
Every member has this, although you can only see your own (and moderators can see them also).
For 98% of you, the warning status is at 0%. If you were to receive a warning, you will receive notification of that, and why you received it.
I hope that clarifies this, and sorry to alarm any of you.
Marc

I find it amusing that some members have been so alarmed as to become unpleasant!
More like disappointing than amusing.
They only needed to read the recent software threads to find the answer.

That's why I stick to the political and climate threads you can't get in to much trouble there, its just a bunch of blokes disagreeing with each other, it seldom if ever gets nasty, but geez they give you a sh!t load of homework to follow up .
Top effort to the fellas involved on all sides of the political and climate change threads most restrained given the serious nature of the subject matter.

Despite a few emails and a couple of PM's, some simply asking why it is there, others demanding it be removed, the icing on the cake was this morning just before I posted this when I received a phone call from an elderly'ish gentleman (too nice a word actually) who muttered on about now getting a warning on StereoNET, and that he objects and demands it be removed immediately before he 'takes it further'. He was rude, abusive and did not even give me the chance to tell him everyone has one and it doesn't mean anything. I didn't catch his username, but if you are reading this, be thankful I didn't catch your name else you could consider your membership terminated. Come to think about it, it reminded me of a very unpleasant phone conversation I had with another SNA member some months ago.
Others have contacted me in recent days regarding all sorts of matters, and you all know my take on manners and courtesy. Some are a pleasure to speak with, but others .... It's getting worse. I've lost my patience now though, I will simply start not responding and hit the ban button. Something to actually have a go at me about then.
I don't have to put up with this crap - well maybe I do as Administrator, but I certainly don't have to accept it
/end rant.

Hey...I'd like a BAN BUTTON too please...
That way, every time I say something dumb-as-dog-doodoo, I can hit the BAN button on myself before the Mods can do it....
And see what happens with my new friend, the Warning Status Bar...
Oh! I just got it, just now...they included that for me, jeeeeeeez, could have just sent me a message guys...look how many poor members have had their feelings hurt...
This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds...(I hope)!!!!

Just think of it this way, if you are successfully pissing people off you must be doing something right. Trying to please everyone would result in nothing getting accomplished.

Sometimes however, you just have enough! We do need to crack down on a few things around here, and I have every intention of doing that.
If I come down on you, it's because you've simply overstepped the mark or clearly ignored one of the website guidelines. It's not personal.
How did I know he was elderly Grumps? It was clearly evident by the sound of his voice. Was it you?
BTW - our phone number has always been on the contact page http://www.stereo.net.au/contact/, but I think I may remove it from my websites soon.
Nothing worse than getting a phone call during dinner from a frustrated audiophile who can't remember his password and blames the "website not working properly".
Time for bed. Night all.

By nature, I'm not very diplomatic (some of you might have picked up on that by now, lol), however the role I have found myself in certainly requires that, and a lot of patience.

They do have a funny star thing that we all can see.............I don't know what that is.
As for Marc, I'd be taking that phone number off.
If they can't wait for an answer via email, they need to take some Ritalin, or something similar.

Now here is an idea. We all get to place a warning on everyone else. But, you can only warn each member once.
If a member gets 100 warnings - banned!
C'mon - if you manage to piss off 100 individual members, you deserve to go. Hard to just be malicious as even if you could muster up a posse, it will still be hard to remove someone - they would have to behave badly enough to upset the general population.
But make it fun - make warn status bars visible to all. (I anticipate that those with higher warning levels will muster a bit of a following).
C'mon Marc - its YOUR site, be an innovator, talked about in hushed and revered tones by administrators everywhere. Just a breif mention of me at the Annual Webmaster Awards when you collect the gold "Thick Skin" will be thanks enough.

Yeah, if you run something you always cop it, because in people's minds you've turned into a supra-person/bad daddy/pillow . . . Sometimes I'd rather not know what goes on in people's minds, it spoils dinner.

Marc - remove that phone number. The forum provides plenty of opportunities for people to vent, and they think twice - or should think twice - when they write because the record is there for all to see.

Sorry to Hijack this post, but I found it funny that I started a post on here about the iron fist of Stereo.NET's moderators and the post was deleted before anyone could actually read it. Just goes to show I was right. Now I will have to Hijack as many posts as I can with this message so everyone knows that freedom of speach is not permitted on this site and stuff the consequences
I read it. I tried to reply but it was shut down as I typed. But I copied my comment first -
"This has not been my experience of SNA and all the Mods seem like reasonable people who generously give their time to keep the integrity of this site."
Dude - you seem to be fishing for a smack...
