Hey Everyone,

I am considering building some monitors/bookshelves/whatevers to run on my computer desk. Obviously required peak SPL is minimal maybe 80-90dB tops. I need something I can cross at 100Hz or there abouts. Speakers will be approximately 1m away from me so obviously they are going to be fairly nearfield.

Now the crux of the matter. $120-140 for drivers + xovers inc shipping. I would prefer it to be less than that, but I know how much drivers cost in Aus!

Can anyone think of any plans etc that would fit this requirement? I am not using them for mastering of anything. I just want to upgrade my computer sound! I am going to get a DAC or new soundcard and a small 2x 20w T Amp.

I plan to build a folded horn sub for bass from 40Hz - 100Hz. As I like a nice bit of bump. Don't think I will get it out of table mounted monitors...

Size is not a huge issue I can go to maybe  H:40cm W: 20cm D: 15cm. The most important thing is good sound!

Thanks for your time, I understand perfectly if no one has any ideas. Figured I would ask while I look at what is around.

Mitch

2 of these at $99 would be about the same as woofers, tweeters & crossovers.

Thanks for the reply,

But those are $99 each! And full ranges should be run with at least a high pass yes? If not a high and low pass?

How about something like this? With shipping it should be in your budget.

I don't know a lot about full rangers. But I think I remember hearing that they sound best with a bandpass essentially to limit distortion etc.

Wixy, they look nice cept they aren't going to fit on my desk :(
