Power lead rejoin advice needed

Hello gents,
I have a standard lead the has been cut and needs to be rejoined. Any idea the best process for doing so?
I know you will say use another lead but for the application this is not an option.

The safest way is a socket and plug (much the same as joining 2 leads)
