My missus alarm clock/radio died recently and I'd like to replace it with a digital one. The requisites are:

- AM/FM (AM as she's a fan of talkback radio on AM stations)
- alarm clock
- reasonable sound quality
- dimensions not too excessive as it has to sit on the bedside table
- possibly nice looking design
- price in the $70 to $200 bracket

Anyone feedback would be appreciated

Thanks

I have a Boston Audio Receptor radio that has great sound. This is the current version of it, not sure about the price but it has great sound and very good on AM too.

Up here in Sydney the AM talk radio stations also broadcast on digital so you might not have to worry about AM. The Melbourne stations are here...

Edit. We've got one of these Grundigs as an alarm clock. Sound is superb but it's a bit above your price bracket at $219 retail- i'm sure we never paid that much though. The early ones like ours that we bought 18 months ago had some shocking software that kept on doing odd things but that has all been sorted now so if you look for reviews on the net and they are all moaning (quite rightly) about the errors then those are not a concern now.

I recently bought a Sanyo DAB clock radio from Target. For what it is it wasn't cheap either. From memory about $70 - $80. The sound quality is shockingly BAD. I'm sure my 22 year old Panasonic that it replaced sounded better on AM than this piece of rubbish. I don't know why I even bought it, I swore many years ago never to by Sanyo again after a couple other bad purchases. Not only is the sound crap, they couldn't have made a more un userfriendly piece of plastic if they tried. FAIL Sanyo

So there's one you can cross off your list.
Ascension Summoner 1093, Ascension 252 Centre, Ascension 502 Rears, 2X Ascension 1230 Subs. Harman Kardon AVR 355. Luxman M-03 2 ch amplifier. PS3. Oppo BDP-95. Beyonwiz PVR. Panasonic 50" HD Plasma

The Pure One Elite.

Best thing in the market sub $200.

Has a Monday to Friday alarm, with an option to set a 7-day alarm if necessary.

Excellent reception and sound quality that is amazing considering it's compact dimensions.

Last, but not least.............simple to set up and use.

Highly Recommended !

PS: I only listen to AM, but transmitted digitally so can't comment on standard AM playback.

Both Grundig & Pure look like good candidates, but I haven't seen them yet. I've seen the Sangean at Volume And I really liked it, although at $299 (but I guess it would be cheaper somewhere else) it's a bit above my budget. SQ seems reasonably good, nice aesthetics and build quality, and comes with a dock for the Iphone. Anyone has got one ?

MagicBox DAB+ with alarm ~$50 delivered. I see them regularly on Grays Online. I would only recommend this unit if you have good reception now. It is not that great at retrieving signal in marginal areas. My parents have been using one since Christmas.
