That's complicating things. But what and who do we really vote for anyway? Our local member (lib or lab etc), or the Leaders of the parties?

If KR was the leader of the party and Labour was voted in then wasn't HE the one that the party put up to try and 'win' the election. OR did ALL of us just look to our 'local' candidate and vote for him/her regardless of what party they represented????

Too many questions for a TOO complex system that has TOO many flaws.

Look what we have now! A few independants 'pulling the strings' of the whole country because we couldn't get a majority vote!

I call for a re-election!

The labor caucus chooses the leader not the voter, the caucus would not have flicked Rudd without a very good reason.Complicated or not that's the Westminster system operates. The Independents were democratically voted in by their electorate, and along with the Greens now hold the balance of power, and if the minority Labor government wants to get it's legislation through the upper and lower house then they have to do it with Indies and the Greens assistance.

The Liberals would never be able to win an election in their own right as long as their arsse points to the ground and they know it, that's why they join forces with the Nationals to form a coalition.

When the Libs/Nat are in power don't you think there are times when the Nats call the shots and hold everyone else to ransom its all done in back room deals and when the Nats don't get their way the coalition implodes.
The National Party and the National Framers Federation have got to be the most self serving bunch of voters in the country.

No problem Rantan, as you can see I'm not much of a political observer so I only offer what's on my mind at the time (without going into too much detail).

You may be right (be careful what you wish for), as most people are quite wary about Tony Abbott. I must say that I did like him but am so sick of his 'negativity'.

A lot of these threads seem to be political, which leaves me out somewhat as if I get involved I will just stir things up ( which isn't a good intention ) as the discussion seems to be quite amiacable at the moment.

Cheers.

I fully understand how the Westminster system works & I wasn't even born here
My kids however were born here and really don't care to much about politics

However I have noticed that they parrot or comment what's been on the news or social media but only when there attention is caught

Thanks everyone, I might just sit on the sidelines for this one and observe (and hopefully learn a thing or two about this politics stuff).

I see where you are all coming from and that's what makes things so complicated because there are SO many variables. Everyone (in politics) is in it for a number of alterior reasons and it's hard to seperate the good from the bad. Even when someone 'looks' good or has a 'good' policy, there is always some 'agenda' lurking!

I find it quite amusing sitting back and watching the 'circus' of politics in the media these days.

Over to you guys!

Here we are stuck with John Key doing back room deals and putting it out there like, "here you are have some Asset sales, bye, sorry".

Found the info it literally only just happend
Snip

KEVIN Rudd has resigned as Foreign Minister over attacks from what he called "faceless men" and a lack of support from Julia Gillard.

6.05pm Kevin Rudd's daughter Jessica has tweeted "Effing proud of you, Dad. xxxx in support of her father.6.00pm Mr Rudd's resignation set the stage for a challenge to the Prime Minister next week by presenting himself as the best choice to defeat Opposition Leader Tony Abbott at an election.

"The simple truth is that I cannot continue to serve as Foreign Minister if I do not have Prime Minister Gillard's support," said Mr Rudd.

In the pre-dawn of a Washington morning Mr Rudd told reporters he was resigning with a heavy heart and after much soul searching. He said he will fly home to determine "what my next step will be" - meaning he could leave Parliament causing a by-election in his Brisbane seat of Griffith, or stay on as a back bencher and possibly challenge Prime Minister Gillard.

"While I am sad to leave this office I am sadder still it has come to this," he told reporters.

As long as Krudd is in the parliament he will try in some way, to undermine Labor. It has never been about him serving the party, it has been about him using the party and the office of Prime Minister to satiate his ego and playing mind games with whomever he chooses.

Is it just me? Or do others consider that this whole debacle was maybe created by Gillard & Crean to make Kevin 07 look the bastard so he would lose credibility!?

I think the worst thing Kevin 07 did (strategically) was to give up without a fight when Julia knifed him.

Maybe he's coming back for round 2.
I reckon he is... Would be interesting.

My first question still stands (unless it's already been discussed & I missed it, probably)

I just came across this word poll

The Herald Sun asked readers to describe Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd, in one word each, here on heraldsun.com.au over two days. More than 16,000 readers contributed their view. The responses were built into a 'word cloud' using Tagxedo.com. The bigger the word, the more often it was used.

Rudd resigns as Foreign Minister
Rudd comes home and challenges for the top job
Rudd fails to get the numbers and Juliar wins the bloodbath
Rudd resignes from the Labour Party and becomes an Independent
Rudd Crosses the floor
Liberal/Rudd coalition forces a new election
Liberals win and Tony Abbott becomes Prime Minister
Move forward to 2013 and Tony Abbott is toppled by Julie Bishop for the Leadership
Australia finally gets the Prime Minister it needs (and she's a bit of alright too!)
