so if gillard is not leading the government who is?

Take your pick....

Bob Brown, the media, the opinion polls, the unions, the "faceless men". The list goes on.

Far from it mate. You must be just cherry picking the posts.

Perhaps you are noticing that most contributers to this thread actually have a brain (think for themselves) and don't just swallow the tripe bandied about by certain sections of the popular media.

We can't win.

1. If Rudd rolls Gillard and becomes PM again..........we lose
2. If Gillard stays as PM..............we lose.
3.if the govt loses support and Tony wins.......we lose.

I guess one of the fundamental tenets of a free democracy is secrecy of votes. No-one, not even SP, can be obliged to reveal for whom they voted.

Indeed. And if he failed to vote Labor, he can't complain about Rudd losing his job.

In any event, surely non ALP voters are allowed to complain about the ridiculous theatre that is happening in Canberra

What is happening in Canberra that Liberal voters want to complain about?

Do they want to complain about the complete lack of policy by the Lieberals?
How about the inability to fund promises by the Lieberals?
Or the fact that Abbott is stark, raving mad?
Or the fact that Abbott's insane carbon tax, will send taxpayers to the wall, whilst doing absolutely nothing to address CO2 emissions?
That the Howard/Abbott regime spent billions of Dollars on stupid wars in the Middle East, that cost the lives of Australians?

Those are all legitemate cause for complaint.

What can they complain about from Labor?

That Australia survived the GFC in remarkably good shape, thanks, in part to Labor policies?
Or that Australia will have a long overdue carbon tax?

Precisely what can they complain about?

Thats why they have media consultants, speech writers ect
We can forgive if one owns up to an indiscretion and then follows up with action
But we have long memories if what is said does not equate to actual results then they deserve everything they get

Kevin's big mistake was promising big climate change policies and them abandoning them when he could not deliver
Also well intentioned programs that went horribly wrong
Julia was also part of the decision making process
She has not learned from that experience as she is still making them - re set top boxes

I wish politicians of any party stop and think - this is not our money to spend - its the Australian peoples money - and use it wisely for the people
The tax department actually stores our collective money

I cannot stand the woman either Yardley.

I am quite aware, however, that apart from the leadership issues (which may or may not exist) the current Govt. has done reasonably well. Despite what TA and the media that supports him/them would have you think.

I, personally, did not vote Labor and if you read some of the posts in other political forums, many other contributors did/do not either. This is far from a "Labor forum" IMHO.

Pauline Hanson get elected once before people realised what a whacko she is. She has lost an astounding number of subsequent attempts to return to Parliament since then. If you want Australia to become an International laughing stock then vote for her. We are actually well respected ATM because of the way we weathered the GFC unlike many other countries.

Dubai has plenty of "stuff in the ground" and they were insolvent until they got a massive loan from neighbouring Abu Dhabi. It is more about being Pro Active in a crisis and the ALP under Rudd were! . Just a couple of posts backs someone referred to Rudd as a maniac. I would rather have Rudd as a PM who is comfortable with world leaders and has a grasp of international affairs than a likeable sports loving amateur!
In any case there will soon be a challenge and then Tony Abbott will hopefully have to get off his **** and actually have to announce some policies. Assuming he has any?

I was in Dubai last year for a week. Cannot compare the place with Aussie. Not a sensible yardstick for all sorts of reasons.

I deliberately used Dubai as an example when you mentioned "stuff in the ground". WE also have a lot of stuff in the ground but a country like Australia has a lot more going for it than Dubai and Nauru. We will always be able to weather economic down turns better than countries that purely rely on their natural resources.

Not so unless your in KR's electorate that is, the Labor party caucus voted him in and out, you/we voted for our local federal member. In my case it was Anthony Albanese.

That's complicating things. But what and who do we really vote for anyway? Our local member (lib or lab etc), or the Leaders of the parties?

If KR was the leader of the party and Labour was voted in then wasn't HE the one that the party put up to try and 'win' the election. OR did ALL of us just look to our 'local' candidate and vote for him/her regardless of what party they represented????

Too many questions for a TOO complex system that has TOO many flaws.

Look what we have now! A few independants 'pulling the strings' of the whole country because we couldn't get a majority vote!

I call for a re-election!

Mate.

Just a few things if I may and no offense .

We vote at every federal election for the party who we would prefer to be the government. Right now it is a choice of the lesser of two evils, but nevertheless, we make a choice by casting a vote for our local member who represents the party we like [ or dislike least ].
The party that has the most local members elected via this method then forms a government. In the case of the last election it was essentially a draw, but the previous one was a walkover for Labor [ quite rare in itself ].

When the most recent election was a "draw" in terms of seats won, the horse trading began and we can now see the results and the reality of minority government, which essentially sucks, especially when a minority government has to brown nose idiots like Oakshott and Wilkie. and cannot get a clear legislative program in place without pandering to 3 crazy farmers and a loopy ex spy.

If you say we need an election then you are saying you want a Liberal government led by Tony Abbott, who will then become PM, so if that is what you want then that's OK, but just be careful what you wish for.

You just might get it:)

That's complicating things. But what and who do we really vote for anyway? Our local member (lib or lab etc), or the Leaders of the parties?

Sorry Yardley. I am having difficulty working out what you posted but you assume wrongly if you think I am a "Labor Man".

I was once a Labor voter when the Labor party wasn't a centrist Liberal party. I have also said many times that people vote for whomever they wish, but that the choices we have are not actually very good at all......for either of the major parties.
Please don't judge me or ascribe things to me which I have never stated. I formulated some opinions of your own posts, but I was polite enough to let them pass without public comment.

No problem Rantan, as you can see I'm not much of a political observer so I only offer what's on my mind at the time (without going into too much detail).

You may be right (be careful what you wish for), as most people are quite wary about Tony Abbott. I must say that I did like him but am so sick of his 'negativity'.

A lot of these threads seem to be political, which leaves me out somewhat as if I get involved I will just stir things up ( which isn't a good intention ) as the discussion seems to be quite amiacable at the moment.

Cheers.
