Had the Tellie on (waiting for the cricket) while playing a few records. Loaded a record, pushed the cueing device and returned to my seat when a loud 'POP' scared me and the Dog. Just as the Coopers and tunes were getting good too.
Took awhile to realise the TV was the culprit. Thought it might have been my TT as I've been fiddling with it lately.
Damn! It's the only widescreen TV that we have and i have had to pinch back the old 4x3 one from the bedroom - it looks very strange.
Broken TV weighs over 60 kg so it's stuck on the cabinet until help arrives.
Bugger bum!!1111111

Sorry to hear about that Grumpy. Plasma TV's and LCD's are quite cheap ATM if you need to replace it but if funds are a bit short you might consider buying a second hand CRT TV. People are actually giving them away or just putting working ones on the nature strip. Perfectly good TV's are being just wasted. There are plenty of them on EBay for next to nothing.

That is bad news mate. Do you have any idea what actually made the noise? I don't know much about TV's but I would be interested to know what actually went boom.
Nearly always the power supply.

New ones are very light.
This is true. My dads new Samsung 63" plasma is actually lighter than the old Sony 40" LCD it replaced. Both being much lighter than CRT tv's of any decent size.

It gives more time for listening to music.
Highly recommended.

PSU CapsNearly always the power supply.
Yeah, hardly worth changing them on the old TV's... hay.
These are the usual culprits on the newer flat panel TVs...couple of $1.80 caps later and up and running, very often with a better pic quality

Personally, I'm very wary of the soniq brand. I once bought a soniq set-top box, and it was crap. The tuner failed in no time. $99 is cheap though. Presumably a very small screen size.Hey Grumps, JB's have soniq LED TVs going for $99.

Something always pops up to take the TV funds ; years a go I was all set to buy a big screen TV and the fridge went pop! This time it's the daughters fault as She's due to give birth over in Perth and we will have to put our coin towards going over there.
