Yes it’s true! The Grenda family who ran Grenda’s bus line in Melbourne, have distributed $15mill amongst their staff, with the average gift being $8,500. Many were bewildered, contacting their bank when checking their balance thinking there must have been some kind of bank error.

“The bonuses were paid in various amounts based on years of service and position.
Staff who had worked with Grenda for three months or more pocketed anywhere from about $1000 to $30,000 before tax.”

Ken Grenda said he had been very appreciative of his staff's hard work, "a business is only as good as its people, and our people are fantastic," he said.

Many staff said that the money had come at just the right time and got them out of a hole.

And the other part of the good news for the staff is that they will keep their jobs under the new owners.

Does anybody have a good story, not necessarily involving money, about their employer? Perhaps going beyond the usual, eg. extra time off if family members unwell or extra consideration of some sort?

This is certainly a story of an employer who appreciates his staff and their contribution to the business's long-standing success. And the staff must feel really proud of the company and positive about their work.

Nice, that sort of appreciation from a business owner would certainly be pretty hard to beat I reckon.

A leader amongst others.

Really defines "put your money where your mouth is"

It seems "our people are our best asset" wasn't rhetoric for this man.

Good work.

Yes, it is a good story.

The anglo/american corporate management style, which Australia largely ascribes to, has little loyalty to employees. Long on rhetoric but the actual story is rather patchy.

Grenda was really in the category of a family business. It was his own money rather than shareholders' money. One can tip one's hat to him.

Interesting that a real-to-god-honest 'good news' story gets little traffic on SNA.

An alleged bad tempered retailer on the other hand...

I wonder if that says something about us!?
