These look great imo, a style evolution from the HD800s. I think they've priced them well too (looking to be $1k).

If they're as comfy as the 800s (most comfortable headphone on the market imo) and sound nearly as good, then for the price I think they'll be unbeatable at the moment.

Pricey. If they sound close to the HD800s, then they would sound the same as the K701s.

I'd rather pay for orthodynamic headphones like the Audeze LCD-2s - http://wiki.faust3d....le=Audeze_LCD-2

interesting, no wonder been clearing out the hd650. if spending $1k or there abouts. I wonder if start spending that sort of cash would just save a bit more and get he hd800 and be done with it !

not too sure of the styling of the 700. too many years of being used to the 580s/650

but yeah definitely looks like this one a hd800 lite.

Ha! I'm glad you used the smiley face there Triode I'm as much a fan of the 800s unbalanced, but through a balanced headphone amp they come alive. I'll agree on the LCD-2s, the sound is crazy good. They need to take a leaf from Senn's ergonomics book though hey.

I dunno - it's a matter of individual taste I suppose - I prefer the looks of the LCD-2s over the 1920s Fritz Lang's Art Deco Metropolis Robot inspired styling of the new Senns.

The MP3/Ipod has definely stimulated the headphone market especially at the less than $100 end of the market and I assume people are graduating to more expensive headphones. I see people walking around with beats headphones.

I would not be tempted with HD800 walking around in case someone realises the value of the headphones that I have.

ahh ok, so i was wrong, doesnt look like it uses the same lemos as the hd800 though, or does it? maybe its just that 3d realization above that doesnt look right because the artist didnt have the spec for the connector

I don't particularly like the styling of the 700s but all reports from CES indicate the sound is very close to the 800s. With new models from Audeze, Senn, Grado, HiFI Man and many others, there is no doubting we are in a 'golden age' of headphone options and sound quality. We are really starting to get spoilt for choice.

Plenty of options for headphones.

However, I find that (physical) retailers (other than headphonic in Perth) have limited range of headphone amps. But then most purchasers go online anyway etc. Too much of a niche.

Easier to sell speakers, AV receivers etc where testing or auditioning is important and less prone to an online purchase (being more expensivethan a headphone amp)

dont mean to dissagree firefly, but see it is just so easy to demo headphones. dont take up space. nothing required re demo room and a simple headphone amp and source all needed. so dont understand why retailers wouldnt take the effort. In as far as listening to them before purchase I'd say just as important. as having owned 3-4 sennheisers theres quite different sound character between even them. Important to listen before purchase as a blind buy here too could lead to disappointment, or just place in a buy sell cycle until end up landing upon what might appeal !

Important to listen etc before buying.
