They were a standout product, crisp and with a good strong liquor.
They were the only pickled onion on the market worth buying, IMO.
Apparently many others agreed and they became more commonly available (I was originally buying them from the old Grace Bros supermarket in the now defunct Broadway store.
The years rolled by, sometimes they were not so crisp, it seemed they had difficulties in sourcing good onions from time to time, but they would usually come back from that to approach their early glory.
Recently bought a jar, nearly could not understand what had happened to the flavour, had a second one and merely reinforced my opinion that they now taste like every other soggy, sweet, imitation of a pickled onion available on the supermarket shelves.
