Thought I better post over here as some, well meaning, folks are loosing their s**t over in the 'Linn' thread...

Question: Is there a point at which people have invested so much money and time in their system(s) that they loose all perspective and can't stand anyone questioning the validity of their choices / theories; no matter how it's phrased?

It seems to me that music, in any form, tends to provoke the irrational in people. Some arguments I see on music related sites verge on a street-fight over the most trivial of issues...

Or am I totally wrong?

I think for the most part, its very difficult to get a sense of tone and meaning when reading words on a screen VS hearing them spoken to you, and things can be misinterpreted very easily.

I caught the "Linn" thread as you put it, but I missed your alleged offending post because it was obviously one of the posts removed by the moderators. I therefore find it difficult to form an opinion on that particular post of yours and I see that at least one member has defended it and found nothing wrong with your apparent attempted humour, however, at least two members climbed into you about it and both those individuals [one in particular] is often at odds with Vince and his remarks and comments...........just makes me think that it must have been in pretty poor taste for them to jump to Vince's defense as they did.

I don't think it comes down to the question you pose either, but rather the degree of tactfulness used when making a humorous remark and that determined by how you feel the recipient and others are going to interpret that humorous remark.

Thanks Keith, but I wasn't trying to 'resurrect' the debate in the Linn thread...

Seems to SFA to do with tact either. It appears to me that music related discussion leads to irrationality and preciousness a lot of the time.

Emotional subject = emotional response?

Gruffnuts, there is humor and that's fine, but what you are referring to was distorting the statement of another member by altering the quote...it crosses the line between acceptable, and not.

Unfortunately there are members who have obviously invested heavily would jump at the opportunity to defend there decisions. Discussing a contraversal marketing hype that some are so emotional attached are finding it had to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately GN I didn't see the funny side of your posts, I though you where serious but thats me, then again I dont take anything of face value. I shouldn't have made comments I made either thats why I was the first to aplogise and edit the thread. If that member doesn't accept that apology, what can I say???

GN, you referred to the 'Linn" thread in your OP and really that was my only reference............talk about it or don't, it doesn't matter either way.

Are you kidding, it's got everything to do with tact, but I'm not going to show much tact here though when I tell you that all you are doing in this thread is looking for confrontation with other members.........and unfortunately, you're going to get it. Good luck with your projects nonetheless.

Compact discs are quite durable, this being their only advantage over real music media. You should take every opportunity to scratch them, fingerprint them, and eat egg and bacon sandwiches off them.

The fact that people do not buy sufficiently competent players to assure melodious reproduction is not the fault of the storage media.

So all you see are positive reviews of cars and modifications because any negative reviews are quickly deleted by biased moderators or threads closed because owners of rides being critised will resort to shouting down the reviewer on their thread. Which only makes said forums useless from any information standpoint.

I find it a little depressing with all the angst on some of the threads lately. I'm all for healthy debate, but the mudslinging that I've seen flung around lately leaves a bitter taste.
No way was I going to comment in that Linn thread, it went feral early on in the piece and doesn't seem to have improved.

Maybe the mods can start issuing chill pills.

I moderate on one car forum, and any form of personal attack or flaming is shut down immediately, hence threads do not have any chance of getting out of hand. Also political or religeous threads are not allowed. Disparate viewpoints and discussion is encouraged so long as it stays within forum rules, and we have a large and active patronage (and the forum largely deals with modified vehicles).

I think its just the nature of online forums. People often behave differently when they are seated in front of their computer compared to when they meet in person.
