Don't get time to watch much telly ... but I have just finished watching Season 2 of White Collar on Netflix. Great show, great rapport between the leads, and I especially love the camera work, with its use of wide-angle shots, depth of field, and framing.

No one seems to have mentioned Deadwood. Only ran for three seasons but one heck of a show.
Brilliant show, critics and fans loved it, but expensive for HBO to produce.
Carnivale (two seasons) had the same problem, like Deadwood it was nominated for a lot of Emmys.
Add Arrested Development, Sopranos and Battlestar Galactica (re-imagined version) to the list.

First season only, IMHO. It went downhill pretty quickly after that.Heroes
UK version is better than the US version. I never really bought into follow-up series Ashes To Ashes, for some reason. I think the schtick works just the once.Life on Mars
Has anyone seen Better Off Ted? I watched this on Netflix a while back ... excellent workplace comedy about an evil corporation. Only lasted for two seasons, unfortunately.

Some great shows being mentioned in this thread.
What about The Night Stalker?

Big fan of Shameless (UK) - just got Season 8. Also downloaded the US version with William H Macy as Frank (seems an odd choice but who knows). Yet to watch it but it has some big boots to fill. Has gone to season 2 so must be ok.
Deadwood is an all time favourite - if not one of the best TV series ever aired. Just getting into Treme (from the makers of the classic The Wire). Slow pace, but an emphasis on the music which elevates it to something special - well worth the effort.

I loved Night Stalker when I first watched it as a wee lad. So I was really excited when it was recently made available via Netflix streaming. What about The Night Stalker?
I watched the first episode (about Jack The Ripper in modern San Francisco) and it was a real disappointment. We just have to assume that weird supernatural stuff happens in this world without any apparent reason. Some hookers get murdered? It's Jack The Ripper! But ... wasn't he around in the late 1800s? No matter! It's really him! And he can leap tall buildings in a single bound! You're a naughty one, Saucy Jack! Curtain, and exeunt stage left.
I might watch another episode to see if it gets better, but I'm not hopeful.

It's like the early Star Trek and stuff.
Cheesy acting etc but reasonable, if not slightly predictable plots.
I found all the episodes and the movie on my private torrent site....................along with the Twilight Zone etc.

Classic satire, too subtle for most seppos, so canned after two seasons.
And if we're tripping down memory lane, don't forget Callan.

I never missed that show - it was bloody fantastic and I mentioned it on here somewhere awhile back when it was still on.One I forgot to mention - Party Down, starring Jane Lynch (Glee) and Adam Scott (Parks & Recreation).

Been watching a show called Outnumbered on channel 2 and I think the two younger children in this show are 2 of the best little actors I have ever seen.
Just amazing writing taken up with amazing abilities by the 2 kids
I'll second Grumpy's recommendation.
I bought my wife the first 3 seasons on DVD for Christmas. She's not much of a TV watcher but had all 10 hours of it finished just after new year. The current season on ABC (season 4?) is nowhere near as good as the earlier ones. They are trying to use the same children's humour on kids who have grown up considerably. It is much more scripted now - I think they just used to let the cameras roll and do a lot of editing in the earlier seasons - it was much more spontaneous.
Cheers,
John

My wife feels much the same, she really dislikes the way the kids interact now. Its just not as funny as it used to be. I didn't realise it was season four showing now however. I've only seen part of season 3 and this one then. Something to look forward to then.

I've just started watching UK series Peep Show on Hulu Plus ... it's unusual in that the viewpoint is always from one of the two main characters, so it's basically characters talking directly to the camera and lots of internal monologues. And it's effing funny as well.

When you have a Ghost a Werewolf and a Vampire all sharing a house together, sounds like some sort of "Twilightish" show that would only appeal to teenagers doesn't it....well there is a lot more depth to this show than you might think if you haven't watched it, apart from a serious continuing story line there are some very funny situations with some equally very funny one liners.
Series 4 is just about to start in the UK.
Expect it to show up on ABC2 sometime later in the year, but please see the first 3 series first, as there was a huge shift in the plot at the end of series 3, so series 4 will seem disjointed unless you know what happened beforehand.
each series was only 8 episodes.

The Young Ones. an old favourite
The Lost Room. Quirky mini series.
The Unusuals. I haven't watched all of this but caught a bit on late night TV recently. Seemed pretty good but apparently it got canned after the first season.
It's been said before...but The Wire is probably the best tv series I've seen in a long long time.
I can't believe no one has mentioned WILFRED!!. OZ version of course.

The Simpsons season 4
Fawlty Towers
Arrested Development
are classics that I always go back to for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, nth viewings.
30 Rock
Breaking Bad
The Ultimate Fighter
Weeds
Sons of Anarchy
The Office
Sex and the City
are very good as well.
Recently: I just started watching The Shield and An Idiot Abroad and was quite impressed by both. I'm told Frozen Planet is very good as well. I have mainly been obsessed with The Ultimate Fighter of late though haha.

Rome
Deadwood
Firefly
Lie to Me
Green Wing
Torchwood
Rake
Carnival
Modern Family
Band of Brothers
Life on Mars
Enjoyed the Office (original version - that yank one just stinks IMHO) but An Idiot Abroad is too close to some of the people I meet on my travels. Just makes me uncomfortable because there is some truth in the portrayed attitude.

Description
Justified is the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero and something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster — a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that's the purpose of a gun. The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was created by America's pre-eminent crime novelist, Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty, Out of Sight), and is played by Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Live Free or Die Hard). The Chief Deputy of the Lexington USMS office is Art Mullen, played by Nick Searcy (Cast Away, From the Earth to the Moon). Working alongside Raylan are fellow deputies Tim Gutterson, played by Jacob Pitts (The Pacific), and Rachel Brooks, played by Erica Tazel (Life, The Office). Raylan, Art, and the other deputies do what all U.S. Marshals do — chase down fugitives, protect witnesses, transport prisoners.
