G'day all,

We want to get a couple of rooms in our place done with 2 way film. The stuff that you can see out of but not in.

Can anyone recommend any products and or installers in Sydney?

I know exactly squat about the topic.

Many thanks,
Peter

From what TintAWindows told me, the privacy feature doesn't work at night, only during the day.

I'm doing the same at my home. Bronze privacy tint for the day, draw my blinds for night.

As per all tints, if you are backlit at night you will be visible to some degree. The degree of visibility can vary from "clear as day" to fuzzy silhouettes.

My old apartment had Silent Gliss roller blinds installed. There were micro perforations in the weave of the Trevira textile that permitted you to see out during the day. Best was that you could not see in during the day or at night - even with all the lights on!

All the one way stuff--film, glass, blinds--work the same way. You see from the dark into the light.

If you can see out during the day, others can see in at night.

I've used opaque films instead to maintain privacy day and night and to continue to let light in during the day. As the windows in question open from the bottom even when fully open (about 40 cm at the bottom of the window) you still have quite good privacy inside as its just a sliver of a triangle down each side to see in through and that's not an issue at any sort of distance.
I got the film online and installed it myself. You can get patterned films, or have text of your choice cut into the film. I'm now considering getting a couple of other windows opaque filmed as well.

Lemme know if you find something that works. Our neighbor is putting in a double storey house and the second floor looks into all our bedrooms. We have roller blinds but I'd prefer something that lets the light in during the day and not have to remember to pull the blinds down at night :)

I like the idea of electric glass but the cost puts me off every time!

FYI - we finally got around to doing this for the bedrooms......they've opened a new mountain bike track across the road and its causing issues.

Anyhow, really happy with it. Some rooms done in 50%, the north facing ones in 35% (similar to the darkest car tint you can get - legally). You cant see a thing during the day, its like a mirror from the outside, very reflective. Flip side is at night you need the blinds down as it works in reverse (basically whichever side has more light reflects)

Also had the car done - not sure why we never did it previously, only cost $170 and its awesome

Just walk around naked for a few weeks in your home and they will soon put their shades down. Save you having to do yours. :)
