i will be very interested to see your graph results now after all these panels.

Great work once again mate

You and me both mate, I'll have to get the measurement gear working again. Not sure what the issue was last time but I blew my stack trying to fix it.

Loving the new sound, it's sensational.

Problem is the wife loves it too and has commandeered the room so she can play her tuba in here. Nothing like live music in your room to let you know how your system should sound! My wife loves the new set up, and a happy wife is a happy life :)

Jen and I watched Super 8 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1650062/) last night and holy crap batman that has some really loud, low deep bass. It sounded incredible. What was good though was that we noticed great clarity and speech intelligibility. The treatments are working an absolute treat (pardon the pun).

Extremely happy with the outcome.

How would the measurements differ if you put the panels behind the curtains?

Probably not a whole lot. They just don't fit behind the curtains.

You certainly do notice the difference don't you.

How would the measurements differ if you put the panels behind the curtains?

Possibly would absorb less at the lower end given that the air-gap between them and the wall would be less.

Finally got the measurement gear working again. No idea what was different this time, I didn't change anything and it started working again. Hmmffff

End result measurements seen below.

You 've done a great job of the room Dritz.

I have a personal preference to keep a room looking simple and hide many of the bits, thats where i would put the panels behind the curtains and move the curtains a bit more in to the room to give space behind.

I think your room looks much more elegant without seeing the panels.

Fair enough. We like them where they are which is fortuitous as we ain't moving the curtains.

At what frequency do you cross over from the subs to the main speakers? I would start looking into soundfield management to improve the LF response at the relevant seating positions.

The graphs show my speakers running full range (no subs).

I usually run my speakers crossed over to mono subs at 80Hz, but I don't have the graphs for those, sorry.

What is soundfield management.

Soundfield management is a method of balancing the LF response at more than one listening position by applying simple EQ and delay to the two subs. Toole wrote about it, and it can be easily implemented in Excel and realised with any DSP. In your case, the gain from SFM would increase if you increase the distance between the subs.

I'm happy to cooperate to produce a SFM spreadsheet.

The subs are staying put where they are but I'm happy to play around with any EQ delays on the subs. I need to re-EQ my subs anyways since I have moved the listening position and speaker positions around.

Do you have a link I could look at?

I have a balanced miniDSP driving my two subs in mono. (The subs are not running in the graphs you have seen in this thread).

Why only mono? Stereo is much more fun.

A great result D, I am picking up some Megasorber p100 for my room upgrade on Monday. Rocks in my head this close to Christmas but hey why not.

Now enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Because I'm using my pre/pro for crossover duties, hence mono subwoofer out.

I'm more than happy enough with multiple subwoofer mono bass.

Devantier and Welti "Low frequency optimization using multiple subwoofers"

http://www.wghwoodwo..._subwoofers.pdf

It's really simple:

1) measure the FR from each sub at each critical position
2) add delay, a single parametric EQ and a level to each measured FR
3) add the modified responses from each sub at each position
4) calculate the deviation across all positions as an optimisation measure
5) use the Excel solver to minimise the optimisation measure
6) program your DSP for each sub accordingly and check using measurements

Cheers.

My subs are equidistant from the listening position so the delays are the same. I just measure them together at the LP and EQ them as one.

Read the paper - the purpose is to treat each of the mono subs individually, and add delay / EQ / gain to each one in order to improve the variability across the listening positions. If you design the spreadsheet accordingly, you can also optimise for flat power at all positions.

After listening to the set up for a while I decided the bass was a bit hot so I have turned the subs down a few dB (3-5). Sounds subjectively better that way.

My sister and her boyfriend came over tonight and they keep on raving about how the room sounded so different now and how the audio was crystal clear. It is sooooo great when non-audiophiles even notice the difference. :)
